Lidl has slashed the price of its award-winning champagne to under £10.

The Montaudon Champagne Brut has been reduced in price from £14.99 to £9.99 until December 31. The deal is limited to three bottles per person and you need to be signed up to the Lidl Plus app to get it.

The supermarket fizz was recently voted better than Moët & Chandon in an independent blind taste, with six in ten people saying the own-brand champagne “tasted better”. A bottle of Moët & Chandon will cost you around £35.

The bottle of Lidl bubbly has also been described as having “real depth and complexity for the price” by trade magazine Decanter, while Good Housekeeping Institute has named it “best budget champagne”.

Louise Weise, Promotions Director at Lidl said: "Our customers rave about the quality of our Montaudon Champagne Brut, so we were delighted that the results of the independent blind taste test confirmed what we already knew. Lidl Plus offers our customers amazing deals every single day and we wanted to celebrate with them by giving them an extra special discount this New Year’s Eve – but they better be quick as it won’t be on shelves for long!"

Lidl Plus is free to sign up to, however, if you're not a regular Lidl shopper then you can price match this champagne elsewhere. For example, Aldi has slashed the price of its Nicolas De Montbart Champagne Brut, also to £9.99. Sainsbury's has reduced itsPol Guyot Selection Champagne Brut to £10 if you have a Nectar card, or it costs £16 without.

A bottle of Louvel Fontaine Champagne Brut will cost you £11.99 at Asda, while Tesco is selling its Gartissier Champagne Brut for £12 if you have a Clubcard, or £15 without. The cheapest at Morrisons is its Champagne Charles Clement Cuvee Des Vignerons, which costs £12.99. Offers may also vary in Scotland Wales and make sure you be Drinkaware and drink responsibly.

If you still need to purchase last minute food supplies, be sure to compare prices online using Trolley.co.uk. It can be easy to overindulge, so make sure you only buy what you really need.
