An angry kitchen customer has gone to war with Wickes – by parking a tank outside the store.

Paul Gibbons, 63, claims the kitchen which is said to have cost £25,000 in February, still has a “poor finish”. He says doors and drawers don’t close, some storage is unusable and mould is growing under the sink. In protest he left his 1965 Abbot tank outside the Wickes branch in Basingstoke, Hants, with a sign based on the firm’s name that says: “Warning Incompetent Complacent Kitchen Equipment Supplier”.

Mr Gibbons, from the nearby village of Kingsclere, said: “I agreed to the contract and what I was told would be two weeks of work. And 10 months later I am left with a kitchen which I can’t even use as you should. The worst thing is that Wickes refuse to accept that the quality is nowhere near the standard it should be.” I’m making a stand simply to say it’s not right.”

A Wickes spokesperson said: “Our customer relations team is in contact with the customer to help to resolve the issue.”
