Gypsy Rose Blanchard is set to be released later today after killing her mum over eight years ago - and has revealed her biggest regrets just hours before her release.

The 32-year-old was put behind bars for 10 years after she murdered Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard, the medically abusive mother who forced Gypsy Rose to live her life as if she suffered from severe illnesses. Nick Godejohn, Gypsy Rose’s boyfriend at the time, was the person to actually commit the murder, stabbing Dee Dee multiple times as she slept while Gypsy Rose hid in the bathroom.

In September, Gypsy Rose was granted parole after spending just over seven years in prison, a sentence she received as part of a plea deal which accounted for her upbringing by her abusive mother. Fans of Gypsy Rose have rejoiced gleefully across the US and worldwide as she is finally set to walk free today (December 28).

But it may not be such a gleeful celebration for Gypsy Rose herself, as she reflects on what she did in June 2015 in order to end her upbringing of misery. She has now shared her largest regrets from her life, revealing that if she could go back in town, she likely would not have asked Nick Godejohn to kill her mother.

"If I had another chance to redo everything, I don't know if I would go back to when I was a child and tell my aunts and uncles that I'm not sick and mommy makes me sick,” she said, speaking to People. Dee Dee successfully hit the reality of Gypsy Rose’s health from her family through various measures, such as forcing her to use a wheelchair when pretending she had muscular dystrophy and shaving her head when pretending she had leukaemia. Even many of the doctors who would see Gypsy Rose believed the things Dee Dee was telling them - so there was legitimate medical support for her apparent diagnoses.

Gypsy Rose continued: "Or, [I don’t know] if I would travel back to just the point of that conversation with Nick and tell him, 'You know what, I'm going to go tell the police everything.' I kind of struggle with that." It was only after Dee Dee died, when the police found Gypsy Rose on the run and opened the investigation, that it became clear her diagnoses were all fake.

"Nobody will ever hear me say I'm glad she's dead or I'm proud of what I did. I regret it every single day,” Gypsy Rose added. Her sincere regret for the killing of her mother may be a significant part of why she has now been granted parole.

Sources close to Gypsy Rose say that she has matured while in prison, TMZ reported. It is reported that group therapy in prison was an integral part of her healing process - and that she plans on continuing one-on-one therapy after her release to work through her traumatic childhood and any regrets which may remain.

With a desire to now turn her life around, Gypsy Rose reportedly wants to get into public speaking and advocacy work for those who have suffered from child abuse. The sources say she wants to speak out on Munchausen’s disease by proxy - the disease wherein her mother faked her illnesses - raising awareness for the disease which has plagued her entire life.
