A horror fire ripped through a bed-and-breakfast in the early hours of Tuesday morning and killed five people - including a child.

The horrific blaze erupted out at Tohani, around 60 miles east of Bucharest, Romania. Emergency services rushed to the nightmare scenes on Boxing Day morning.

Another two people were injured, as dramatic images show the extent of the horror and damage inflicted on the guesthouse. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, there were 26 people staying at the bed-and-breakfast at the time.

A total of 18 people managed to escape the fire with two of them being treated for burns. Officials said the search for the missing people is ongoing.

The fire affected over 11,000 square feet of the building, authorities said, adding that the owner of the establishment had failed to update fire security measures, which were found inadequate during a check in 2019.

The devastating fire, reported by The Sun, comes as Romania was recently rocked by another fire breaking out at a hospital in Piamtra Neamt last month. The blaze was said to have ripped through coronavirus wards at the facility.

Local reports at the time said ten people died, and several more had been injured. However, the figures were not independently confirmed.

Seven people, including a doctor, were left in a critical condition, reported Stiri din Bucovina. A doctor and nurse were reportedly burned as they tried to help patients.
