Christmas is a little different for households with disabled family members. A mother who is the sole caregiver for her husband and oldest son, both of whom have brain damage, shoulders the whole family's responsibilities which extend far beyond Christmas presents.

When her husband, offered to sort out their youngest son’s present she joyfully accepted, but this unavoidably resulted in some confusion and left one young boy presentless on Christmas. In the run-up to the big day, the mother-of-three explained her husband told her he’d ordered a gift for their youngest son. “He has been really excited about it. He said I'd be excited too, so I was to wrap it in the box it came in, so I could surprise him when he opened it this morning,” she said.

“I thought it might be a set of books I'd loved as a child or a game I liked for us to play together, something like that. How thoughtful!” She said since she felt her husband had their youngest sorted, she shopped for her other two sons and her husband. “Hubby got a pair of slippers because I'm awesome like that.”

“Money is really tight. We had a very small Christmas this year, with each of our three teenage boys just getting one small thing.” She explained there was some money on the way from their grandparents but that post didn’t make it to their house in time for Christmas.

So on Christmas day, the mother got a little bit of a shock, “Yeah, that gift he was so excited about, and that I wasn't to open, that was for me.” She said. “We all opened our presents together so when he opened "his" and it turned out to be mine we all realized then he didn't have one.”

“Ya'll probably figured that one out. I didn't. And we are flat broke and everything is closed, so I can't even run out and get him something. So our youngest son got nothing for Christmas. Ho ho ho.” The upset mum wrote what happened on Reddit, where so many people offered up kind solutions to make sure their youngest had something for Christmas.

One said, " I have Amazon and would be more than happy to buy some stuff for you guys. Message me please if you're willing to accept my offer. I need to spread some good karma this Christmas, so you'd be doing me a favor as well."

Another said, "I would absolutely love to help too. Everyone deserves something on Christmas and I won't stand by when I can help just as easily. I hope you guys have a blessed Christmas and pm me if you would give me the privilege of helping you."

One more added, "I would love to help send something your kids way. We all need help from time to time. Until then sending good vibes your way."

So many more people on Reddit offered up kind ways to support the family. The mother gave an emotional response the the outpouring of kindness. “I am overwhelmed by the support here. You all are incredible. So much generosity here, and even more in my inbox, I don't know how to respond. Please give me a minute to get back to you.”

She updated her post later on, confirming that she did manage to do something for her youngest. “A friend brought me a gas card and I was able to get some of his favorite snacks with that at the gas station. He took it really well, and was thrilled with the snacks, and he knows there's money on the way, it just didn't get here in time,” she said.

At the end of Christmas day - she felt so supported by everyone on Reddit who had reached out to help “I have about 25 offers of help or gifts at this point. You all have made an emotional, difficult, lonely Christmas something magical,” she said. "Brain damage sucks, and so does being poor, but y'all made me feel awesome!!!"
