Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall became the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie's new lead detective in 2013.

DI Humphrey Goodman is a loveably awkward and forgetful member of the force, with the BBC comedy drama following the highs and lows of his love life, while he tries to solve crime on the tropical paradise.

Earlier this year, Kris reprised his role in the BBC's Death in Paradise spin off, Beyond Paradise. Over the years, he's made himself a familiar face thanks to his breakthrough role as Nick Harper in sitcom My Family, his career defining part in festive rom-com Love Actually and we couldn't seem to get away from him with those BT adverts. But while his on-screen appearances made him seem omnipresent, he has been much more elusive when it comes to his private life.

Is Kris Marshall married?

He is! They started dating in 2010, before Kris proposed in 2011 - they married in a small wintery wedding in February 2012, in Kris' hometown of Wells in Somerset. Kris wore a black suit and tie, while Hannah went for a ruched ivory dress, completed with a pale fur jacket and beaded headband. In photos released at the time, she carried a brightly coloured bouquet while she and Kris kissed in the falling snow.

Does Kris Marshall have kids?

Kris has two children with wife Hannah - a son Thomas and a daughter named Elsie. The family live together in Bath. Although Kris has largely remained tight-lipped about his home life, he opens up about the family on rare occasions. He took his family to the Caribbean while he filmed Death in Paradise, but it was having them there that led him to decide to leave the show in 2017.

Speaking to Lorraine previously, he revealed: "I realised I had to get my son to school. He was becoming a bit too Caribbean – he refused to wear shoes and would only drink coconut water and eat pineapple." Kris added: "He was very good on the beach but not so good with Maths and English, so I decided that it was time to get him to school, so the show had to go really."

What's next for Kris?

Kris has traded in the Caribbean for the green fields of Devon, after Beyond Paradise was renewed for another series. In an interview with the Express, the dad-of-two spoke about his trepidation about returning to the role. He explained: "You know it was really easy to sling on the old costume. I was worried about it because I hadn't played him for four or five years and COVID happened and that kind of stuff. But it was great, it was really easy and natural."

He added: "The fan reaction has been incredible. I feel absolutely honoured to be able to give the character that I love a second life in our new show. It's a complete standalone show which is unique."
