Arsenal chief Edu responds to Saka on social media after "we wanted more" post

Arsenal's sporting director Edu was quick to praise Gunners star Bukayo Saka on social media following the 1-1 draw away at Liverpool.

It was an enthralling clash at Anfield that saw Mikel Arteta's men take the lead inside opening the four minutes when Gabriel Magalhaes headed home from Martin Odegaard's free-kick. The joy didn't last too long when Mohamed Salah levelled things up after some dismal defending from Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Though the Gunners created some chances of their own, the stars of the show came in the form of their central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba. It was the latter who was named man of the match, but both played their part in silencing Liverpool's star-studded attack.

Saka was one of the few Arsenal attackers who can come away from the game with much credit and his performance made an impression in the eyes of Edu. The England winger took to Instagram after the game to express his disappointment at failing to return to London with the win.

Alongside a snap of him in action at Anfield, Saka penned the caption: "We wanted more today, but we will take the point, keep working and pleased to be on top heading into Christmas." Edu replied with applause emojis in a bid to boost the morale of one of the club's most prized assets.

Arteta was perhaps a tad more upbeat about the performance of his players than Saka, insisting that he was beaming with pride come full-time over how the Gunners contested the tie.

Bukayo Saka was disappointed to come away from Anfield with just a point

"It was an unbelievable game of football, one of the most intense and hectic games that I have witnessed in 20 years in this league," the Arsenal manager claimed.

"The quality, the intentions of both teams… It was superb to watch it and we as a team with the boys willing to play at that level, to have the courage to play at that level, the determination and belief to do what we’ve done here, I think my players deserve big, big credit."

The result sees Arsenal stay top of the pile on 40 points, a slender one-point advantage over nearest challengers Liverpool, though Aston Villa also boast 39 points, though an inferior goal difference to the Reds.
