Christmas is a fun time of year for King Charles and his family, and like so many other families nationwide, it involves the gifting of some hilarious Christmas presents.

Alongside a swish black-tie dinner and a special church service, it's well known that the British royals like treating one other to silly gifts, as opposed to lavish items. In keeping with the family's German heritage, they typically gift the presents on Christmas Eve as opposed to Christmas Day. There's an array of interesting and quirky gifts that the royal family have purchased for each other, from a leather toilet seat to homemade chutney, Hello magazine reports.

In the royal biography Finding Freedom, it states that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, allegedly did not hold back during her first royal Christmas in 2017. The former actress gifted her brother-in-law, Prince William, with a spoon which had the words 'cereal killer' written all over.

Royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote: "Meghan's biggest challenge was finding the perfect novelty gifts to amuse her new extended family. At least one of her gifts was a huge hit - a spoon for William that had 'cereal killer' embossed on the shallow bowl end of the utensil."

Meanwhile, Kate gave the late Queen some homemade chutney, which was a recipe from her own grandmother, when she first became a member of the royal family. She also reportedly Prince Harry a 'Grow Your Own Girlfriend' kit before he began dating Meghan.

The Duke of Sussex himself is known for his sense of humour, so it's unsurprising that he has gifted some hilarious presents. The Finding Freedom book claimed: "One year, Harry reportedly gave the Queen a shower cap emblazoned with the phrase, 'Ain't life a [explicit]".

Apparently it was a hit. "Another time he gifted his grandmother a Big Mouth Billy Bass singing toy that was said to sit proudly in Balmoral, her Scottish retreat, and provide the Queen with great laughs."

When it comes to Prince William, second in line to the throne, he reportedly gifted his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II a pair of slippers which were emblazoned with her face on it.

Finally, one more senior royal has had a go at gifting a silly gift. Princess Anne gave her brother Charles a leather toilet set. Additionally, she once gifted her father, Prince Phillip, a pepper mill with a light on the end, to enable him to season his food during barbeques when it was dark.
