Ronaldo uploads telling social media post after 'awkward' Conor Mcgregor moment

Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have quashed any suggestion of awkward tension between himself and UFC icon Conor McGregor at the huge night of Boxing in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.

The stars were out in full force to watch some huge heavyweight bouts, including Deontay Wilder's defeat by Joseph Parker and Anthony Joshua's dominant victory over Otto Wallin. Footage of McGregor sitting alongside the former Real Madrid and Manchester United icon quickly did the rounds on social media.

While the Irish sporting great was notably animated and passionately gesticulating, Ronaldo was mostly rather muted. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner spent much of the exchange looking straight ahead, rather than making eye contact with McGregor.

As a result, fans have quickly taken to social media to poke fun at the situation. One wrote: "Ronaldo knows he's having his ear chewed off for the next three hours." Another added: "Cristiano is reconsidering all his decisions that led him to this moment."

One claimed: "Ronaldo has no idea what Conor McGregor is saying," while another suggested: "That meme of the drunk lad shouting at that girl in the club. Same energy!"

However, Ronaldo has quickly ended such talk with his latest Instagram post. The football superstar uploaded a snap of both him and McGregor sitting next to each other in fits of laughter alongside the caption: "Best caption wins."

The pair even compared watches at one point, with McGregor spotting the expensive timepiece on Ronaldo's wrist before showing off his own. The octagon icon McGregor compared his watch to Ronaldo's number and put them side-by-side for a closer look.

McGregor's trip to Saudi Arabia for the heavyweight showdowns had already sparked attention online, after an embarrassing error from the event organisers. The UFC titan's name was misspelt on his ringside seat for Joshua's bout with Wallin.

In a video posted to social media showing the ringside seating arrangement, McGregor's first name was spelt "Connor" while his surname had a small 'g' instead of a capital. The Irishman didn't take it too badly and was all smiles during the event.
