It's been announced that Selma Archerd passed away recently

Actress Selma Archerd has died at the age of 98.

The late actor - who appeared in a number of films and TV shows over the course of her career - is understood to have died just over a week ago, with tributes having since been paid to her. A cause of death has yet to be reported.

Her death was announced in an obituary that was posted through the Los Angeles Times, in which she was described by her family as a "devoted mother and grandmother". It was stated that she died "peacefully" on December 14.

Tributes have been paid on social media following the news, with one person tweeting: "She was a real character. [...] I love seeing her pop up in vintage TV and movies." Whilst someone else wrote: "What a wonderful person she was." Others expressed hope that the late actor rests in peace.

Over the course of her decades-long career, Selma had roles in shows like Charmed and the Brady Bunch. And she had a recurring role as Nurse Amy on Melrose Place, with her appearing on the FOX soap opera from 1995 to 1999.

She's credited as having played a police officer in the film Lethal Weapon (1987), which starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Selma returned in the sequel Lethal Weapon 3 (1992), with her credited as having played Officer Selma in it.

She was also in Die Hard (1988). Selma is believed to have played a hostage at the Christmas party in Nakatomi Plaza, with Bruce Willis' character John McClane attempting to rescue her and other hostages inside the skyscraper.

The late actor's other film credits are said to include A Very Brady Christmas (1988), Indecent Proposal (1993) and the Brady Bunch Movie (1995). Her IMDb profile further states that she was also part of the cast of Scrooged (1988).

She's said to have once been married to Howard M. Rosenblum, though they reportedly divorced in 1968. She subsequently married the late columnist Army Archerd, best known for his work in Variety magazine, in 1969.

Army is said to have "chronicled Hollywood's inner circle for more than 50 years," before retiring from his Just for Variety column back in 2005. It was announced just four years later that the columnist had passed away, aged 87, in 2009.

The obituary for Selma states that she's survived by her "adoring sons" Richard and James, and her grandson Ryan. It notes that memorial donations in her memory may be made to Exceptional Children's Foundation (ECF).
