A major show starring Love Island narrator Iain Stirling has been axed by ITV.

It's a fresh blow for the TV star following the end of his quiz show CelebAbility. Bosses reportedly made the "hard" decision to finish another of the star's popular programmes due to his commitments elsewhere and the expansion of Love Island in the USA.

Despite being eyed up for a brand-new third season, the comedy sitcom Buffering has now been cancelled by the ITV2 show's producers. Avalon, which produced all 12 episodes of the show, confirmed the news in an interview with British Comedy Guide.

"Iain and Steve loved working with a brilliant cast and crew on Buffering," they told the outlet. "But the series isn't returning as availability-wise it was hard to fit filming in with Iain's busy schedule, particularly with the expanded series of Love Island in the USA."

BAFTA-winning comedian Iain stars as Iain, a fictional version of his past self in the "millennial comedy centred on people who are too young to settle down and get married and too poor to have a mortgage". Stirling plays a children's TV presenter.

The show featured guest appearances from Joel Dommett, Laura Whitmore, Emily Atack, as well as regular cast members Janine Harouni, Elena Saurel, Steve Bugeja, Jessie Cave, Rosa Robson, Paul G Raymond, Sean Sagar and Phil Fletcher.

It comes after CelebAbility was cancelled after seven series back in November. The 35-year-old, who is married to former Love Island host Laura Whitmore, launched the comedy game show in 2017 with the view of bringing the Love Island audience something to watch after the main show finished.

The Sun reported that ITV2 bosses have branded the game show as "tired" and have axed the show from its schedules. The game show saw celebrities take on members of the public in a series of challenges with Scarlett Moffatt and Stacey Solomon being staples on the show alongside Iain.

According to The Sun, an ITV insider told them: "CelebAbility had a decent run, but ultimately the format was a bit tired and celeb panel shows can feel dated. Bosses are always keen to try new ideas and invest in fresh telly projects, it’s time for a change and Iain isn’t short of work.”

An ITV spokesman confirmed the nail in the coffin for CelebAbility, saying: "There are no current plans for another series." This might be music to the ears of some viewers, as a number had taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, with their feelings on the show, which backed up the feeling that there was nothing left for the show to give.

Iain has been the narrator on Love Island since 2015 and has been a comedian since his final year at Edinburgh University, where he was studying law. In that year, Iain made the final of the Chortle Student Comedian of The Year and Paramount Funniest Student.
