Daredevil travellers can sleep suspended hundreds of metres above the unforgiving ground in one of the world's most thrilling camping spots.

Depending on how you feel about heights, this could be the overnight stay of your nightmares or the stuff of dreams.

Campers at the Natura Vive's Skylodge Adventure Suites in Peru quite literally hang off the side of a mountain - 1200ft (365m) above the ground below.

If you can handle the horrifying drop below, then the accommodation offers some truly breath-taking views out onto the Sacred Valley of Cuzco.

Simply getting your head down for the evening is no mean feat, as the lodges can only be accessed via zipline of climbing up ladder-like steps.

If the prospect of drifting off in such a precarious position seems to much, then you can just spend a couple of hours in the pods to enjoy a spot of lunch.

Those who can handle the whole night are treated to a stunning celestial display that stretches out over the remote valley and can be enjoyed through the transparent pod walls.

The capsules themselves are made out of aerospace aluminium and weather-resistant materials, so they feel pretty sturdy.

They are also filled with extra eco-friendly features such as lights powered by solar panels and a dry ecological toilet and sink.

There are three capsules in total, each of which can hold up to eight people across four beds, a dining area and a private bathroom.

Suites are about 24ft in length and 8ft in height so while guests won't be able to move around completely freely, there is space to manoeuvre.

For those who want to stay, there's a 400m-high climb - or you can take on a fun trail of ziplines for that extra adrenaline rush.

The cost of a stay for two people is currently around £700, with packages including breakfast & gourmet dinner with wine, transport from Cuzco and professional bilingual guides.

Before booking, it's worth noting that Peru is currently facing political turmoil.

The UK Foreign Office currently warns: "Political protests in Southern Peru and Lima started on 4 January.

"They can easily spread to other parts of the country. These protests are unpredictable and can escalate quickly and include violence."

In December hundreds of tourists found themselves stuck in Machu Picchu when the main access to the historical area - the railway - was blocked off.
