Corrie's Carla Connor actress life off-screen - 'immense guilt' and turbulent love life

Coronation Street is set for a heartbreaking departure this Christmas as Carla and Peter break up and he leaves the cobbles for good.

Peter - who has been played by Chris Gascoyne for the last 23 years - will leave the soap after an emotional goodbye with his long term partner Carla. The couple have had their ups and downs, but will think over their relationship before coming to the conclusion that they are better off separating. They sit down for a final meal together and try to look to the future.

Having struggled to come to terms with his guilt after killing Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce), Peter initially thought he'd face jail, but after new evidence was revealed, there was no reason to charge him. But feeling stuck, recovering alcoholic Peter has had to constantly resist the temptation to turn to drink to deal with his feelings.

He'll be seen leaving his flat with a bag, Carla following behind. Peter is overwhelmed to see his whole family - except Simon - and bids everyone an emotional farewell, promising Ken he'll keep in touch.

But Alison, who plays Carla, hasn't just had a turbulent on-screen love life, with the 51-year-old suffering her fair share of real life heartbreaks

Alison trained as an actor from the age of 22, going on to model and have her big break in Brookside, where she played a hairdresser. After that, she starred in Sky One's Dream Team, playing Lynda Block, where she met her future fiance, co-star Jim Alexander. But after getting engaged in 2006, the pair split the following year, with following Jim going on to date model Emma Ledbury soon after.

She was cast as Carla Connor in 2006, and she's been a major character on the street ever since.

Alison was then engaged to Adam Huckett, a sound technician on Coronation Street. The couple had a daughter, Daisy, who is now 14. But they never got married and split up in 2012. Since her daughter's birth, Alison has fone on to spoeak out about her "immense guilt" around having a healthy baby on the same day her co-star and friend Kym Marsh lost her baby boy. Kym's baby was born 21 weeks early in February 2009, and tragically only lived for a few moments. Kym said Alison struggled to enjoy being a mum knowing her friend was going through such heartbreak.

Speaking on BBC's Morning Live, Kym revealed: "My friend Alison King, a really good friend of mine, gave birth to her daughter on the very same day I lost my son – literally hours apart. And the immense guilt that she felt at the fact she’d delivered her baby so safely and I’d lost my son was such a hard time for both of us."

Elsewhere in Alison's love life, she was in a relationship with Corrie's Philip Middlemiss, who played Des Barnes. They called it a day after five years, with Alison meeting IT consultant David Stuckley in 2018. Nine years her junior, Alison and David announced their engagement in OK! magazine the following year and planned to marry in Greece. But it wasn't meant to be, as in May 2022, they announced they had split, with reports saying that had 'grown apart' during lockdown.

In May, MailOnline reported that IT expert David was expecting a baby with his new girlfriend, 12 months after his split from Alison.

A source told the paper: '"It seems David has moved on, with a baby boy due this month. There are loads of pictures on Facebook of him with his new girlfriend. They even went on a family holiday to in Santorini in Greece."
