A young woman has paid tribute to her twin sister after she tragically died following a car crash just before their 19th birthday.

Chloe Pearson, 18, from Castleford, West Yorkshire, sadly died after she and her sister Abigale, who were travelling in a Citroen C3, were involved in a crash with a black Mercedes CLK on Friday on the A426 near Lutterworth, Leicestershire.

The pair were both taken to hospital and were pictured in beds next to each other but Chloe later passed away. Abigale is still recovering in hospital with injuries including a fractured spine and a bruise on her brain. She has since paid an emotional tribute from her hospital bed and said her "heart is in bits".

Abigale wrote on social media: "Never in a million years did I think I would ever be writing this but my heart is in bits, rest in peace you beautiful soul and I am absolutely devastated and don’t even have the words to describe how much I’m going to miss you, sweet dreams angel, I love you more than you'll ever know, until we meet again."

Police in Leicestershire said the collision happened on Friday evening at 8.30pm on the A426 Rugby Road. Chloe and Abigale were both passengers in the Citroen alongside three others and a man and woman, both in their 60s, were travelling in the Mercedes. The driver and the passenger in the Mercedes suffered life changing injuries while the Citroen driver is currently in a life threatening condition.

Two other passengers are now in a stable condition. Abigale has since revealed the extent of her injuries and said: "It was the worst experience I've ever been through in my life. Finding out I have a bruise on my brain, two fractures in my neck, a fractured spine and fractured ribs wasn't easy at all. But knowing my twin sister never made it, absolutely destroys me.

"It still hasn't processed that your no longer with me anymore, you was my bestfriend and I don't know what I'm going to do without you. I'm on the road to recovery now and I'm going to do absolutely anything to make you proud. I love you more than you'll ever know Chloe - forever and always."

Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle urges anyone with information or dash cam footage to get in touch with the police. He said: "Sadly we are now investigating this incident as a fatal collision and six other people still remain in hospital with serious injuries. We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish how the collision occurred and would ask anyone who has information or dash cam footage and hasn't yet spoken to police to please get in touch."

Friends are now rallying around to raise money for the family through an online appeal through Just Giving. The appeal can be found here. More than £3,000 has been raised already.
