Love Island fans call on show to ditch first coupling twist ahead of new series

Love Island fans were treated to the confirmed line-up on Monday ahead of next week's winter series opener, but fans are pleading with bosses to ditch a certain coupling twist.

As the new series gets set to heat up our TV screens, fans took to social media asking the show's big bosses to revert to old ways.

For the first time in the summer, fans of the show were tasked with pairing the potential love birds before they set foot in the villa.

But it appears some avid viewers weren't a fan of the twist and have urged it to return to contestants picking their own match.

Sharing a tweet from the official Love Island Twitter page of new contestant Shaq, one user wrote: "I am PRAYING that Love Island won't do what they did last season by allowing the public to match up the first batch of contestants, let's not force BLM love again!"

Another was seemingly hoping for the same, tweeting: "@LoveIsland I don’t appreciate how you guys pair couples now," followed by an eye-rolling emoji.

A third user suggested the twist for this season be that the boys step forward instead of the girls. In all but one of the series to date, the girls have had the power in their hands when it comes to who they want to couple up with.

The user wrote: "I think boys should be stepping forward this time," followed by gritted teeth emojis. "Let's see something."

Following the line-up announcement, social media was flooded with mixed responses in anticipation to the show starting.

One user joked they won't be watching it as we can have "a winter World Cup, or winter Love Island. Not both". Another added: "Why is there a winter love island am i really gonna have to watch this?"

The contestants included a Michelle Keegan body double, semi-professional rugby player and a farmer.

Their quest for love will see the hopefuls head to South Africa for the second winter series. It also sees Maya Jama take up the hosting duties for the first time since taking over Laura Whitmore.

The brand new plush villa, which overlooks the prison where Nelson Mandela spent his jail term, is set to spark the raunchiest series yet with a number of x-rated additions, with rumours circulating that another ex-islander could be set for a second stint.
