Dannii Minogue hints she's representing Australia at Eurovision 2024

Dannii Minogue has sparked a frenzy of speculation that she is planning to take to the stage of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest to represent Austalira.

The 52-year-old music icon left fans breathless on Tuesday when she responded to an official post about the upcoming 68th edition of the iconic music competition on social media. Despite the show being still almost six months away, the stage and setting for the upcoming competition has been revealed for fans to marvel at.

The 2024 contest will take place in Malmo in Sweden after music icon Loreen won the contest this year with her song Tattoo - scooping the prize a decade after she fist won Eurovision in 2012 with her song Euphoria. The stage design for the 2024 contest comes from Fredrik Stormby of Green Wall Designs - who helped design Beyonce’s recent Renaissance World Tour stage design.

The official Eurovision X/Twitter account put a spotlight on Fredrik’s work on Tuesday by sharing a sneak peek at the designs in a dramatic video. The account added: “Good folk of Europe and beyond… say ‘hej’ to the #Eurovision2024 stage!”

While the stage itself was indeed impressive, it was a response from Australian singer Dannii that really threw fans into a frenzy. The singer reposted the X/Tweet statement and added a cryptic message of her own, typing: “The stage is set…and the countdown has begun!”

Dannii’s comment ignited immediate speculation that she will represent Australia at the 2024 contest where she could stand to qualify for the finals in May and win the contest - which would be a first for Europe’s honorary nation. One convinced fan wrote in response: “I’m going to take this as confirmation that you are representing.”

Others were baffled and excited by the post, with one writing: “Omg… is Dannii representing Australia??” And another writing: “Wait…WHATS HAPPENING.”

Speculation was further fuelled when the Eurovision account in turn responded to Dannii’s teasing tweet, writing: “I… begin to wonder” alongside a winking face emoji and a GIF of Dannii’s 2003 music video from her UK number 2 hit.

Even Rylan Clark reacted to this particulate exchange, writing in reply: “Don’t do this to me.” While another speculated further, writing: “3 theories here 1. Dannii is representing, 2. Since she was [2016 Eurovision hopeful] Dami Im’s coach on X Factor, maybe she helped Dami choose a song 3. Australia Decides returns and Dannii hosts.”

While the internet continues to dissect the possibilities of Dannii’s message, UK fans already know that Olly Alexander will be representing the UK in Sweden come May. The Years and Years frontman is tipped to score high at the 2024 contest after he confirmed he will be flying the British flag at the event.

Olly appeared on Strictly Come Dancing last weekend where he confirmed his exciting news. He said at the time: “I can exclusively reveal I will be representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest! I’m planning it now. It’s going to be spectacular. I love Eurovision so much. It’s a dream come true. I’m just so, so, so excited. It’s going to be great!”

An official BBC spokesperson then shared a statement, explaining: “One of the world's most pioneering and multi-award winning music superstars, Olly Alexander, will represent the United Kingdom at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden in May 2024.”

The 33-year-old singer is best known as the frontman of Desire singing band Years and Years. He will be performing under his own name at the contest - which will see him release his first solo song.
