Richard Hammond fans are demanding to know his beauty secrets after learning the Top Gear star's real age.

Former BBC presenter Richard became a household name after hosting the motoring show from 2002 to 2015, alongside pals Jeremy Clarkson and James May. As tributes poured in for his birthday today, social media users couldn't get over how youthful he still looks.

The dad-of-two turned 54 this week with fans taking to X to share their congratulations - as well as to express their shock at his youthful appearance. While many sent well-wishes to Richard, others referred back to James May's 2018 tweet, where his Grand Tour co-star wished him a happy 38th birthday.

One wrote: "Happy 38th birthday again Richard Hammond!" Another chimed in: "Happy 38th birthday again," with a third asking: "Is he 38 again this year?!"

Five years ago, James May tweeted: "It’s Richard Hammond’s 38th birthday. @thegrandtour have described him as a ‘timeless b******’." His followers joined in the joke, with one replying: "It’s his 12th 38th birthday as I recall," and another adding: "He’s been 38 for quite a while."

Previously, Richard spoke out about his near-fatal car crash, in which he sustained serious head injuries while filming for Top Gear near York in 2006. He was driving a jet-powered car and was travellig at 319mph at the time.

Discussing the aftermath with The Diary Of A CEO podcast host Steven Bartlett earlier this year, Richard revealed that he worries about his long-term memory, explaining he was "too scared" to get checked for conditions.

He explained that his injuries "could mean there is an increased risk" of conditions linked to memory loss.

"I have to consciously write memories down and work hard to recall them sometimes," he told Bartlett. "It might be because I'm 53, it might be because I'm working a lot and I'm tired, it might be the onset of something else."

He didn't explicitly name the condition he was thinking about, but he added he "probably needs an MRI scan".

Although he's concerned about new memory loss, he did add he's known to be "forgetful" as a person, adding: "So I do drop the ball - I forget stuff, I forget keys".

He said: "That's just me, that's not a function of something going wrong. It's how I am."

He also discussed how he's dealt with the impact of the injuries he suffered in a piece for The Mirror, ten years after his accident, explaining how his mindset helps.

Richard wrote: "If you’re lucky, as I was in the end, the accident sits alongside other big things that happen in your life – like meeting my wife Mindy, having my daughters and turning 40. It does not define me. I often speak to people who’ve had brain injuries. I support The Children’s Trust in Tadworth, one of the biggest in the country for rehabilitation. I tell people to wait. Recovery takes longer than you think. There’s a period of desperate introspection where you question your own sanity, your personality. But that does fade. I hope I offer some comfort."
