Brendan Cole has slammed one aspect of Strictly Come Dancing as 'boring and pointless' after soap star Ellie Leach was crowned winner of the BBC competition for 2023.

The former Coronation Street actress, 22, beat EastEnders' Bobby Brazier and Bad Education star Layton Williams to lift the glitterball trophy in Saturday night's live final, but former professional dancer Brendan, 47, has hit out at the scoring board.

The ballroom dancer has insisted that the scoring on this year's show was really high which he deemed as 'boring and pointless'. Sharing his thoughts, Brendan said: "I have two opinions on it. I think it was still a good show. I think that the contestants were good. I think they had good publicity. For the most part, I enjoyed watching most of the dances. I wouldn't say there are too many things that are negative. I'd say the scoring was really high which is boring and pointless.”

Speaking to Sky Bingo, he added his thoughts on whether any of the professional dancers will leave the show before next year. “I would be surprised. I don't know too many pros who have left on their own accord because it's a good job. At the end of the season, you know that you are getting exposure.

"You know that from exposure, you get work and for work, you get money. So I doubt very much, unless somebody's got an incredible offer to go somewhere else, I can't see many of them getting that kind of opportunity because I don't think that they’re popular enough as it stands, so I would doubt that they'd leave of their own accord," he explained.

"Maybe the producers will have ideas to the contrary to mix it up a little bit. Who knows? One never knows what is going on behind the scenes. So I think I think it's unlikely that anybody's necessarily going to leave, again, certainly not of their own accord," the former professional dancer added.

Brendan's opinion on the high scores given to contestants on this year's Strictly Come Dancing echos the thousands of complaints the show faced after Angela Rippon received continuous high scores during her stint on the show this Autumn. Fans were left furious and claimed that Angela, 79, being kept on the show was a 'fix' given that other celebrities proved they were better dancers.

The 79-year-old veteran broadcaster, who is the BBC show’s oldest ever contestant, got the boot in Blackpool in late November along with pro dancer Kai Widdrington. The pair found themselves in the bottom two again against Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, but it was third time unlucky and they were finally voted out in the dance-off.

Prior to Blackpool week, the BBC show was hit with ‘fix’ claims as fans suggested Angela was only being kept in the competition so she could relive the full-circle moment as she used to present the original Come Dancing in the Eighties.

One disgruntled fan took to X, formerly known as , to declare: "Of course Strictly fixed it for Angela to stay in for Blackpool. Angela used to host Come Dancing for years...they're going to do a Come Dancing history special, then she'll be voted out. She tripped in the dance-off FFS."

Another wrote: "Sorry this is such a fix.” And a third agreed: "Sorry but Angela Rippon saved twice over both Adam and Krishnan, really? Despite making mistakes/near falls while Krishnan for one got praised, really? Hate to be one of those people but kinda starting to scream of fix unfortunately!!!"
