Rob McElhenney's takeover of Wrexham has not only seen the football club climb up the leagues, it has also helped the North Wales city top the UK’s home rentals league.

Rightmove said there had been an average of 56 enquiries per property this year, compared to just eight three years ago. The next busiest location was Redbridge, east London, with 49 enquiries per home.

Hollywood star Reynolds bought the club in 2020 with pal Rob McElhenney, which Leigh Hayward, of Wingetts estate agents, said generated “a feel-good factor.” He added: “Wrexham has benefited from it, the housing market has benefited from it.”

Reynolds, 47, and McElhenney, 46, regularly attend the League Two club’s Racecourse ground, sparking a surge in tourism. Being granted city status in 2022 also made Wrexham more desirable.

And interest has leapt from foreign students and workers taking jobs at local employers, including JCB and Kellogg’s.
Vaughan Schofield, of estate agents Belvoir, said it was now normal to have 100 enquiries for a desirable three-bed house. But Karen Evans, of Monopoly Buy Sell Rent, said rental prices were up as a result.

It's no surprise to see Wrexham benefitting from the success of the club. The city was thrust into the limelight following the success of the "Welcome to Wrexham" series which included a unique insight into the area and local businesses.

Wrexham currently sits third in League Two following the club's promotion from the National League last season. The Red Dragons ended their last campaign with 111 points, breaking a new record for the most points earned in a season. The promotion followed a 15 year spell in the National League, and was the club's first trophy in 45 years.

It's not just the club that is getting attention from the club's owners. Reynolds recently took part in a cheeky advertising campaign to help promote his his Aviation Gin business and that of Regent House of Flowers. The advert included a tour of the local flower shop - based on Yorke Street - while also including strategically placed Aviation Gin bottles.

The shop's owner, Laura Evison expressed her joy at the advert and believes that the club's owners have greatly improved business in the city.

"What Ryan and Rob have done for Wrexham is just phenomenal," she said via The Leader. "I don't think anyone could have envisaged just how amazing they'd be not just for the football club, but for Wrexham as a whole. I'm so grateful for Ryan for giving us the opportunity to be showcased and help put us on the map."
