UK football fans can make it to Euro 2024 on the train with fares from £49 to Brussels. (It's then a further £39 for tickets between Brussels to German cities).

Eurostar has released tickets for travel to Germany for the football tournament, which takes place between June 14 and July 14, 2024. Seats have been available from 18 December 2023 on the new Eurostar website to travel from London to Essen and Cologne, where England play two group stage games in their bid to bring the Henri Delaunay Trophy home.

On the train service's expanded network customers can get from London to Brussels with a quick connection on into Germany. England will play group stage games against Serbia in Essen on June 16, Denmark in Frankfurt on June 20, and Slovenia on June 25 in Cologne.

All of the games can be reached fairly quickly on the rail network. Travel from London to Brussels takes under two hours on the Eurostar from London St Pancras. From Brussels, travellers can reach Cologne in one hour 47 minutes and Essen in two hours with Eurostar. This can be booked as one journey via the app or website. Traveling supporters also benefit from a generous luggage allowance, so they can bring as many 'Harry Kane please can I have your shirt signs?' as they like.

Tickets for a return journey from London to Brussels are currently available for as low as £49 each way over the Euro dates, while the extra leg between Brussels and Germany available at £39 each way.

For more football fun, fans can also travel to other popular Eurostar destinations, including Dusseldorf and Dortmund, which could be the potential host for England’s knockout bouts. Up to five direct Eurostar trains run daily between Brussels and German cities, making it easy for fans to plan their journeys. England fans can also connect onto direct trains to Frankfurt from Brussels and Paris.

UEFA has expressed a desire to make "EURO 2024 the most sustainable European Championship of all time" by advocating rail travel as the sustainable choice for getting to Germany. Opting for Eurostar significantly reduces carbon footprints by 90% compared to driving in some cases, while being much greener than flying.

It was announced last month that Eurostar services from the Netherlands to London will be suspended for six months in a major blow for Continental train enthusiasts.

Rail company Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has announced that Amsterdam Centraal will be unable to process cross-Channel passengers during a major renovation of the station. For six months from June next year, Eurostar trains will run empty on the route before picking up London-bound travellers in Brussels.

Cross-Channel services from Rotterdam will be affected in the same way. It was initially feared direct services from the Netherlands would be suspended for almost a year, rather than the half year pencilled in.

Passengers wanting to travel from Amsterdam or Rotterdam to London by rail will be required to take a train to the Brussels and change on to a Eurostar service. Direct Eurostar trains from London to the Netherlands will continue to operate.
