Shocking footage of an abusive traveller being hauled off a plane heading to Miami has appeared online.

The passenger was pictured lashing out at police and going berserk at a person who began to gloat: "F*** you. You wish you would be in the United States." He was then escorted off the plane by Colombian police as he tried to get to the man who had insulted him.

Cheers could be heard from other travellers as he was dragged down the aisle and eventually off the plane. It began after he lost his temper when a heckler and officers tried to calm him down. The enraged individual was then caught on camera punching the police officers at least three times as they wrestled him to try and prevent a fight with the other flyer.

He could then be heard screaming "I hate you" at the police and the person who had heckled him and started the unpleasant scenes on the plane. A young child could be heard crying as the fracas unfolded with the mother trying to calm her down by telling her in Spanish: "It’s okay, it’s okay.”

The punch-up ended with the aggressor, identified locally as a US-based Polish national named Peter Weinmann, being wrestled to the floor so he could be handcuffed and removed from the plane in safety. The astonishing incident happened on board a Spirit Airline flight from the Colombian city of Barranquilla to Miami yesterday afternoon.

Local reports said officers had been called because the man who ended up sparking the violent confrontation appeared to be drunk and the pilot had decided he couldn’t fly with him on board in the state he was in.

One social media user responded by saying he should have been Tasered, claiming: “If that had happened in the States they would have fried him with an electric current.” Others blamed Colombian police for over-reacting and provoking the violence that ensued. Barranquilla police chief Jorge Urquijo confirmed neither of the officers assaulted suffered serious injuries.

Explaining the force's actions, he added: “This man will be accused of a crime of assault against public officials and handed over to court officials shortly.” Passengers onboard flight 239 were made to wait for some time at Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport after the man was first reported to the authorities.

Spirit Airlines describes itself online as the leading “ultra low cost carrier” in the US, the Caribbean and Latin America. It has yet to post any official statement on X, formerly Twitter.
