One parent has taken her festive pranking to new heights after accidentally leaving her Christmas elf somewhere he shouldn't be.

Anyone who takes part in Elf on the Shelf knows how creative you have to be to keep the magic alive for kids each morning, and sometimes your mind will slip when it comes to the mischevious little fellow.

Mum named Anne has left people in hysterics after forgetting all about her elf in the oven. She found the sad remains of the magic creature sitting in her appliance, and it's safe to say he wasn't looking very festive.

Posting the mistake online, the mum revealed she'd left the elf in the switched off oven for her child to find, but after forgetting he was there, she started cooking. The mum was then met with a scorched Christmas elf whose head was smoking in the oven, with melted hands and feet. Sharing the burning elf online, she captioned the video "'Tis steaming" many parents related to her hilarious error.

The video has racked up five million views, and it seems as if other parents also have had the same ordeal over the years. "I did the same thing a few years ago. rest in peace Jingles," and another said: "One time my dad hid the elf in the ceiling lamp and my mom didn't know and we smelled something burning and looked up and the elf was on fire from the light, our elf was in the 'hospital'."

"Twas the night before Christmas and not a creature was stirring except for the elf. Who's screaming and burning was heard all through the house!" One TikToker jibed and a second wrote: "He getting a nice tan going for the summer." Whereas one creative user suggested: "Use it. Put some cookies on a tray and put elf with a note that says something like 'I didn't wait and let them cool first'."

To make sure no more elves need to take a trip to the 'hospital', it's important to note that although it can be a fun and easy place to put the elf when taking part in the fun, parents should always make sure their ovens are turned off before placing the elf inside, and remain off for the whole time the elf is in there.

Another mum went viral for her extreme take on an elf prank as she covered her car in spray paint saying "elves rule", and had even placed a balloon garland on top of the car, as well as drawn snowmen, and I love elves on the vehicle too. Claire, who posts on TikTok as @elves_unicorn_sparkle, captioned the short clip: "The car has been elfified! Thanks elves now the neighbours think I'm insane."
