Rosie Jones has admitted she had to rein in her comedy act in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The 33-year-old was among the many performers taking to the stage at the annual Royal Variety Performance on Sunday night. She appeared on the line-up alongside the likes of Cher, Melanie C, McFly and singer and actress Hannah Waddingham to put on a show for the audience and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

However, Rosie has since confessed she made edits to her performance due to the royals in attendance. In her appearance on ITV's Lorraine on Monday morning, she said: "We all grow up watching the Royal Variety, it is iconic. It was a dream come true to do it but, you know me, I love being rude.

"I love swear words so the whole time I was like 'do not swear, you have got the future King over there." She also admitted to having an awkward encounter with Prince William after her performance. Rosie told host Ranvir Singh: "You know what, I think I broke every protocol [for meeting the royals]

"I held his hand, I touched him and I think you are meant to talk to them until they move on from you. But I had said all I had wanted to say, so I was done with the conversation, so I tapped him on the shoulder and said 'anyway, I will let you get on and I will see you later'." Rosie quipped: "I'm a busy lady."

Rosie is currently on her Triple Threat tour which has been extended until April next year. However, she recently confessed she was worried about getting bored of her routine. She joked: "I was nervous about getting bored of my own comedy. But I’m enjoying every single joke at every single show."

Earlier this year, Rosie made a powerful documentary on Channel 4 about ableism, which showed her wearing headphones to block out the abuse she regularly gets in the street. She shared that it was the "hardest thing" she's ever done and that she is regularly bombarded with hate speech online, leaving her quitting social media.

Rosie said: "Everyone with any kind of platform gets a hard time. But when you add being a woman onto that, it’s harder, and when you add being disabled onto that, it’s harder still. For my own mental health and self-preservation, I take a step back from social media regularly. It can be hurtful."

The Prince and Princess of Wales were also entertained by Royal Variety host Bradley Walsh's awkward jokes. He left everyone laughing when he went on to have a cheeky poke that he's been shunned for a series of prestigious orders and medals and the exchange left the royal pair very amused.

Addressing William, Bradley said: "I've worked for your great nan, your nan, your granddad, your dad, and now I'm working for you, Sir and Madam. And I must say - ask me if I've got an MBE. Nah, ain't got one. Ask me if I've got an OBE - nah, ain't got one of them. Ask me if I've got a CBE? No!" He later barked: "If I don't get a knighthood after this there's no justice."

"They've probably run out because they give them all to people who row boats or people on telly who bake cake." Not done there, the host remind them he had entertained troops in the Falklands and was "happy to make it out alive" while pointing out others got commended for their "Victoria sponge cakes."
