George Clooney has topped countless 'sexiest men' polls, but he thinks his wife is real catch in their relationship.

The 62-year-old actor wed human rights lawyer Amal, 45, in a lavish ceremony in Venice back in 2014, and the couple have since welcomed twins, Alexander and Ella, now 6. The couple originally met the year prior when a mutual friend brought her to George's lavish Lake Como mansion on their way to Cannes.

Their connection was instant, and George revealed that after sitting up all night chatting, they began emailing one another regularly. He recalled: “The funniest thing was my mum and dad were visiting so my parents were there. And we just talked, we stayed up all night talking. And I got her email address, because she was going to send me some pictures of my parents. So we started writing. I didn’t know if she wanted to go out with me—I just thought we were buddies.”

Things progressed quickly, and 14-months later they tied the knot. At a recent red carpet event for the premier of his new film, The Boys In The Boat, George was asked by Page Six if he felt like he was "punching above" his weight when he wed the accomplished British barrister. He replied: “Yes, and I still do [think that]."

George often speaks highly of his very intelligent wife, and their cute little family - although they have kept them out of the public eye. He told The Hollywood Reporter about the moment they discovered they were having twins. He said: “We just felt we'd gotten very lucky, both of us, and we should share whatever good luck we've got. It would seem self-centred to just have that belong to us.

“He [the doctor] goes, ‘Well, there's one.’ And I said, ‘Great.’ And then he goes, ‘And there's the second one.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ We just sat there, staring at that piece of paper they give you, and I kept thinking there was a mistake.”

Amal has also spoken about her relationship, she told Vogue in 2018: “It felt like the most natural thing in the world. Before that experience, I always hoped there could be love that was overwhelming and didn't require any weighing or decision-making. It's the one thing in life that I think is the biggest determinant of happiness, and it's the thing you have the least control over.

"Are you going to meet this person? I was 35 when I met him. It wasn't obvious that it was going to happen for me. And I wasn't willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that.”
