Viewers of The Crown have called out the Netflix drama's portrayal of Kate Middleton's mother as they liken her to 'momager' Kris Jenner.

The second half of the sixth and final season sees the beginning of the romance between Kate Middleton, now Princess of Wales, and Prince William whilst at St Andrew's University in the early noughties. Yet viewers have drawn comparisons between Kate's mother Carole Middleton and Kris Jenner for her attempts at 'matchmaking' the future couple.

Viewers reacted to the final episodes of the sixth season after they were released on Thursday (14 November) and have already been vocal in their comparisons of the two mothers.

Writing on Twitter/X, one person said: "Kate Middleton’s mom is the British Kris Jenner." Another added: "Kate’s Mum is our Kris Jenner." A third wrote: "Carole Middleton walked so Kris Jenner could run." A fourth shared: "Carole Middleton is the original Kris Jenner."

However not all fans saw the comparison with some claiming the portrayal of Carole is unfair. One said: "I’m hating this predatory depiction of Kate Middleton and her mum." Another shared: "A reminder that Carol plotting to get Kate in [to St Andrews] is the misogynistic take the upper class had when they got together."

This isn't the first time comments have been made about Carole's reported role in setting up her daughter with the royal prince, as in the book Palace Papers, royal reporter Tina Brown suggested that Carole had a hand in Kate’s decision to withdraw her acceptance to the University of Edinburgh.

Kate withdrew from her course, took a gap year and instead reapplied to attend St Andrews in 2001 where she later met and fell in love with William. Commenting on Carole's matchmaking, Brown wrote: "It is unlikely Kate would be where she is today without her mother’s canny help in negotiating a royal romance. Carole’s fingerprints are all over Kate’s first move on the royal chessboard."

The Crown's dramatisation of the royal family has also gone a step further for the finale series with a fake scene between Catherine, Princess of Wales and the late Princess Diana. In the second half of season 6 there is a scene where Princess Diana meets her future daughter-in-law Kate Middleton and the pair have a face to face conversation. Pictured in the opening moments of episode seven, Kate and Diana are pictured speaking despite Kate confessing in real life that she never had the chance to meet her future husband's mother before her death in 1997.

The sixth season of The Crown sees Queen Elizabeth II as she reaches her Golden Jubilee and reflects on the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Charles and Camilla and the beginnings of a new Royal fairytale in William and Kate. The much anticipated final season also sees the return of a stellar cast with Imelda Staunton as the Queen, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana. Joining the cast this season as the younger royals during their teenage years are Rufus Kampa as Prince William and Fflyn Edwards as Prince Harry.
