A ' dog mum ' treats her pooches like kids and serves them prime steak for Christmas – which costs more than her dinner.

Yasmin El-Saie, 45, says she's "best friends" with her pet chihuahuas, Chilli, 11, and Sukhi, 5, and loves to celebrate Christmas Day with them. She spends £10 on an organic fillet steak from a local store for the pooches and takes them for a long walk in their festive jumpers.

Yasmin dresses Chilli up in a suit and Sukhi in a tartan dress on Christmas Eve and loves to wake up with them on Christmas morning. She even gets them a Christmas tree each to decorate and loves to relax with the pair after they’ve eaten their dinners.

Yasmin, a content creator and anxiety coach, from Notting Hill, West London, said: “My plate of food costs less than theirs. I love spoiling them. It’s such an endearing and rewarding thing. They appreciate the attention and the energy you give them.”

Yasmin grew up celebrating Christmas surrounded by her pets so felt it was natural to start a tradition with Chilli in 2012 when she first got him. She said: “I don’t have kids. He is my kid in a way.”

Yasmin has a dinner party on Christmas Eve for her mum, Helga, 84, and friends and everyone gets dressed up – including the dogs. The mutts also open their presents, which is often a bow tie or handkerchief and treats.

Chilli and Sukhi have their own beds in Yasmin’s bedroom but Chilli will regularly climb into Yasmin’s bed – and they’ll often all wake up together on Christmas morning.

She said: “Chilli sleeps with me a lot. We wake up together. They get so excited, dancing around.”

The trio will go for a walk around the park mid-morning, dressed in their jumpers. The dogs have a seasonal wardrobe of over 50 items, collected over the years, including matching denim jackets with Yasmin. She said: “I take them for a long walk through the park.”

When they are back, Yasmin cooks up her dinner of roasted vegetables and the pups’ steak.

She said: “I made it a tradition to always buy a fillet steak. A nice organic piece of meat. I’m conscious where meat comes from. It has to be a really good steak. I pan fry it for him and cut it up into small pieces. Chilli would go nuts, dancing around my ankles. Sukhi inherits the tradition – I can’t say she complains.”

Yasmin also gets them each a real Christmas tree which she can replant – but she has run out of space in her garden this year. Instead, she got a joint white fake tree decorated with dog-themed baubles.

She said: “I have a whole selection of doggy baubles I’ve collected over the years. I have a snow globe with a doggy in it.”

The dogs and Yasmin enjoy a “lazy” rest of the day watching Christmas films and lounging around. Since having Chilli, Yasmin says she's fallen back in love with Christmas.

She added: “There was a time in my life I wasn’t crazy about Christmas. They brought it back for me. They are my companions. They are like angels who have been sent to me.”
