Craig Revel Horwood tells Strictly fan to 'calm down' after explicit comment

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has hit back at a troll who sent him an explicit message on social media.

The 58-year-old took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the abuse after a social media user called Charlotte Rose referred to him as a “f***ing din”. Reposting the message, Craig quipped back: “Calm your language down Charlotte Rose. With a name like that I’d expect more!”

And fans were quick to show their support for the Strictly judge – even though he received some backlash for not giving out any 10’s in last night’s final. One said: “Honestly some people, love your honesty Craig, can’t give results on feelings.” Another wrote: “Well said Craig! Don’t lower yourself to get into all that senseless toxicity! Gotta say your 9’s at the final annoyed me, but I respect you as a great judge! Merry Christmas!"

Blasting the troll, a third chimed in: “There is no need for language like that, there are plenty of verbs and nouns in the English language that are more than adequate!” A fourth commented: “Crickey! How rude. I think some people have lost the plot.” While a fifth added: “If you can’t stick the heat get out of the kitchen Charlotte. That’s what the judges are there for!”

Though Craig - an original judge since Strictly started back in 2004 - has never been one to mince his words, fans saw a different side to him during Saturday night’s final, which saw Coronation Street star Ellie Leach and partner Vito Coppola crowned this year’s champions.

While he’s known for being more of a panto villain, Craig actually welled up as he offered critique to this year's finalists. Taking to social media afterwards, he called it “one of the most amazing finals I’ve had the pleasure of watching tonight!” He continued: “Thank you for being fab u lous and keeping us all entertained throughout the Christmas season. Happy Christmas everyone. Have a wonderful holiday season and may the new year bring you many incredible memories and adventures!”

The soppy message has got fans speculating that the 2023 Strictly could be Craig’s last – and there are rumours he may step down as a judge after 20 years on the BBC dance show. Body language expert Judi James exclusively told the Mirror that Craig’s rare display of affection is telling that something is afoot – and he could be readying himself for a departure that is sure to leave fans gutted.

Branding his emotional behaviour during the final “out of character”, Judi said: “His verbal messages gave clues that he was being nostalgic and sentimental. He said he’d been thinking back to the first show and how far it had progressed, which can imply someone is leaving a show, taking one final look back and seeing it as a whole, rather than as ongoing.”

If Craig does decide to hang up his judging boots, one contender throwing her hat in the ring to become a judge is pro dancer Karen Hauer. The 41-year-old told the Radio Times: “Right now, I’m really happy with being a professional on Strictly, and to continue spreading that love of dance. As clichéd as it sounds, it can change your life, and some people still have no idea. But also, I’d love to be a judge on Strictly. I love to teach and I love to guide people. I think that’s my calling, my next step.”
