Nvidia's RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti are set to be released soon
Nvidia is currently working on two new GPUs which feature chips half the size of the RTX 4070 Ti, rumours claim.
With the RTX 4070 Ti dropping last week and rumours surfacing over the weekend suggesting that the next mid-tier cards from Nvidia are entering mass production as soon as next month, it's a busy time for the company. WCCFTech's sources suggest that the new GPUs, likely the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti, will feature a limited version of the AD104 Ada tech which was used in the RTX 4070 Ti.
The new mid-tier card which was released just last week had an AD104-400 chip. However, these two new cards look likely to contain AD104-250 and AD104-251 chips, which means they will host just over half of the original chip. The fact that we're getting two chips which are so similar could indicate that the two GPUs will be very close in specifications and power. All of this leads us to believe these new cards will be the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti.
The source also told WCCFTech that the AD104-250 GPU will be starting production first, in the middle of next month and the AD104-251 GPU following suit in mid-march. We're not sure when the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti will be hitting the shelves just yet but it's likely it will be around May or June time as this is the pattern we have seen with mid-tier GPUs in the past.
How much does the earth cost? I'm gonna buy the entire earth.
Honestly, when the price of the 4070 Ti was first confirmed I was over the moon. Yes, it was a high starting price point of £799 / $799 / AU$1479 for a mid-tier card, but since it was a repackage of the unlaunched RTX 4080 12GB, I expected a lot of power coming in behind the price. I was disappointed upon seeing reviews and benchmarks putting this card below those of the previous generation.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti might be the cheapest 40 series graphics card yetTo make matters worse, when the card actually released, it was near impossible to find it at its starting price in all regions. Why would I spend over the odds to get a card that doesn't even compete with the Radeon RX 7900 XT that comes in at £899 / $899 / AU$1,619?
My expectations for these two new cards have faltered. The time of affordable mid-tier cards seems to be over after the RTX 4070 Ti's release and I'm expecting the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti to have a similar, ludicrous price tag. As someone who has been team green for years, it really does hurt to say that it might be time to consider my other options.
Not only has AMD come out with more affordable high-end cards, the GPUs actually pack a punch, making them worth the cost as opposed to the disappointing fiasco that was the RTX 4070 Ti. Alongside this, Intel is potentially bringing out its Battlemage GPU series next year, and its current Arc series is getting driver updates to boost performance out of the wazoo.
Right now, I feel disheartened. Can mid-tier graphics cards please come with a mid-tier price point again?
