National treasure Joe Wicks has shared his "comforting" and healthy chicken pie dish - perfect for the whole family.

The Body Coach, who went viral during the Covid-19 pandemic for his at home workouts, often shares his top dishes to get "lean in 15" - easy, healthy recipes which are quick to prepare. After his recipes became hugely popular on social media, the fitness coach and presenter released a new cook book.

One of the most popular dishes in the book is his chicken pie - perfect for a cosy night in with the family. The simple dish is easy to prepare and is full of protein. Joe Wicks said: "The pie has all the components you'd expect but is heathier than a classic recipe. If you love chicken pie, this recipe won't disappoint."

He added: "It's actually lean in about 60 minutes but is such a nice treat that you won't mind the extra effort. Plus, there's cream and butter in it, so you know it's going to taste incredible."

Ingredients you will need to prepare the popular pie are: two large knobs of butter, one large leek - washed and chopped into 2cm pieces, 200g of mushrooms - roughly chopped, four 250g chicken breast fillets - cut into bite-sized pieces, 250ml chicken stock, one teaspoon of cornflour, 100ml double cream, two large handfuls of baby spinach leaves, six sheets of filo pastry, a drizzle of olive oil, and salad or vegetables to serve.

Step one: Preheat your oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas mark 5

Step two: Put the butter into a larger frying pan over medium to high heat, then add the leak and mushrooms and fry for two to three minutes until soft

Step three: Turn up the heat to high and add the chicken pieces - fry for a further two minutes before adding chicken stock

Step four: While the chicken is simmering, mix the cornflour with two tablespoons of water until smooth and pour into the pan, along with the cream

Step five: Bring back to the boil, stirring gently, and cook until the sauce thickens

Step six: Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the spinach.

Step seven: Tip the whole lot into a pie dish and set aside to cool

Step eight: Take a sheet of filo pastry and crumple it into your hands before placing it on top of the chicken pie until covered

Step nine: Drizzle the pastry with olive before baking the pie for around 20 minutes

Step 10: Take the golden, crisped up pie of the oven and serve it on a plate with fresh salad or vegetables
