I used to log into Ultimate Team every Friday, excited to see what players were included in the newest promo. Those days are long gone now though, with EA FC 24 leaks ruining the Ultimate Team experience.

Over the past few years, we've seen more and more promos released in the Ultimate Team game mode, with a new promo squad released each week in EA FC 24, including brand-new concepts such as Ultimate Dynasties, Radioactive and Thunderstruck. As someone who's played EA Sports titles religiously since FIFA 12, you'd think I'd be excited by all the new content being added to Ultimate Team, but that feeling has been gone for years, thanks to the copious amounts of leaks on social media.

Content leaks first began around FIFA 19, but back then, they weren't too much of an issue. Leakers could only get their hands on the occasional TOTW squad, or promo squads a few hours before the official release, so if you weren't in the loop, then you could still enjoy the excitement of loading up Ultimate Team when the promo was released.

But now, EA FC 24 leaks are impossible to avoid, and everything is included. Not only are we receiving full promo squads, packs, objectives, Evolutions and SBCs a week before they are officially released, but leakers are also revealing the names and card designs of promos weeks in advance, so there's no surprise factor when the squad is released.

These EA FC 24 leaks are ruining the game and, enough is enough, EA Sports needs to take action.

EA FC 24 leaks – EA Sports must act quickly, or it could ruin the game

Hundreds of Twitter accounts claim to be EA FC 24 leakers, but one stands out as the most reliable, @FutSheriff. The leaker boasts an incredible 1.2million followers on Twitter, more than the official EA Sports FC direct communication channel, showing how trusted the leaker is by the Ultimate Team community.

But over time, more and more accounts are seemingly getting access to promo information before EA officially releases it, and it remains a mystery about how this information is obtained. One relatively new leaker, @FutPoliceLeaks, posted in a now-deleted tweet their frustration towards other leakers in the community about stealing their content, which is pretty ironic considering the account is based on obtaining unreleased information from EA.

@FutSheriff tends to leak most promo squads well in advance, including players released as SBCs and Objectives. This account has such a large following because the demand is there, but I don't see the appeal of knowing every little detail of a promo days in advance.

But there is appeal for this information in the world of EA FC 24 trading, as leaks could used to manipulate EA FC 24's in-game transfer market or more easily predict the rise or fall of player items, allowing players to obtain more in-game currency.

The magic is fading

One of my favourite-ever promo events was the FUTMAS promo in FIFA 17. Each day in December, a new player SBC was released with the player's shirt number matching the date they were released.

It was a fantastic concept that would leave players guessing who would be released next - now imagine that promo being released in EA FC 24. It wouldn't work, because you'd know what player would be coming on what date and the requirements for the SBC well in advance.

That fun factor has been sucked out of the game by leakers. But the biggest problem I have is that EA is seemingly allowing it to happen. Leaks have been a common theme in Ultimate Team for years, and the fact these leakers are gaining more access to promo details as time goes on shows that EA isn't doing enough to combat the problem.

EA has made a minor effort to try and combat these leaks by announcing some of its upcoming content with a 'This Week in Ultimate Team' post, showing some of the SBCs that would be coming to Ultimate Team over the next few days. But this isn't enough, and I'm not sure what it will take for EA to take these leaks seriously.

With each Premier League player of the month receiving an EA FC 24 POTM item, @FutSheriff announced that Harry Maguire was the Premier League POTM for December two days before the official announcement, with popular journalist Fabrizio Romano then referencing this leak to announce Maguire winning the rewards before any official confirmation from the Premier League.

With the Premier League a major partner of EA, this surely would've angered the Premier League, and it may take something like enraging a major partner to force EA into taking leaks seriously.

There's also a question of where the leaks are coming from, and if they could be coming from EA itself. In FIFA 21, 'EA Gate' saw screenshots circulate on social media appearing to show that special cards were being offered in exchange for real-life money, forcing EA to investigate and look to identify improper conduct. However, EA has yet to provide an update on that investigation.

With leaks such a prominent issue in EA FC 24, there should be nothing stopping EA from conducting another investigation, with the leaks only harming its own game. But, with the leaks going on for such a long time, maybe it's too late.
