Popular ITV presenting duo tipped to 'replace' Mo Gilligan as Brit Award hosts

Mo Gilligan is set to be replaced by a hot new presenting duo at the Brit Awards next year - according to reports.

The 35-year-old comedian has helmed the iconic annual music awards ceremony since 2022 - but will not to return for the 2024 ceremony. And it seems his boots are being filled by recent Big Brother co-hosts Aj Odudu and Will Best - who won over TV fans this year with their charming presenting double act.

The 35-year-old bombshell former Strictly contestant and the 38-year-old cutie are said to be Brit Award organisers’ number one choice to take over from Mo, who left viewers laughing with his excellent comedy hosting skills for the past two ceremonies. Going out on a high, Mo confirmed last month that he won’t be returning to the awards next year - and Brits bosses are hoping AJ and Will can bring a ‘fresh’ feel to the event.

ITV bosses were impressed by the duo’s co-hosting chemistry and are hoping they can bring their charm, humour and professionalism to the music celebration. And TV insiders have declared AJ and Will as a huge success story after helping draw in millions of viewers to ITV’s revived version of Big Brother.

A source told The Sun: “No one was really sure how things were going to pan out after they were announced to host Big Brother but both AJ and Will have gone down amazingly with bosses and viewers at home.” The source went on to suggest Brit Award bosses are aiming to liven up the awards by having two hosts instead of one.

The source claimed: “After six years of solo hosts, a double act would really give the show a new feel, but right now, nothing has been decided beyond the list of potentials drawn up by the organisers.” Jack Whitehall presented the awards before Mo as he proceeded over the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 shows. While Emma Willis and Dermot O’Leary were given the responsibility of hosting the show back in 2017.

The 2024 awards are due to take place on 2 March and will be broadcast from the O2 Arena in London. Chart superstars Dua Lipa and Paloma Faith - who are both expected to unleash new albums in the new year - are tipped to perform. And while a full list of nominees for the various awards category is yet to be revealed, one award line-up has been uncovered already.

The coveted Rising Star award was revealed on 28 November 2023 - with City Baser, Sekou and The Last Dinner Party uncovered as nominees. And The Last Dinner Party were then confirmed the winners on Thursday 7 December - with the band declaring: “We’re so honoured and thrilled to be nominated for the Rising Star award!” Past winners of the award include Jessie J, Adele, Ellie Goulding, Emily Sanders, Florence and the Machine, James Bay, Sam Smith and Tom Odell.

Mo Gilligan announced he was stepping away from the Brit Awards, sharing a statement on social media last month. He revealed: "I've had the most incredible time working on The Brits but unfortunately as I'll be in the US for my first World Tour next spring, I'm sorry to say that I'll be stepping down from hosting duties for 2024 and handing over the baton. It's been an honour. See you on Tour!"
