House plants can not only lift our mood when they're placed around our homes, but certain ones can also reduce dust around them too - so it's a real win-win.
Michael Mosley recently revealed the exact amount of houseplants you need to make a difference to your well-being - they make you feel uplifted, and happier, and give you a sense of accomplishment. Did you know they can also make you feel less stressed? Turns out they can also remove pesky dust as well, according to Root Growings on Instagram. Dr Mosley recommends that in each room, you have five plants because there are endless benefits - so if you're looking for a new plant, you may want to consider one that also banishes dust from your rooms.
First up is the pygmy date palm, which is a "small palm with feathery fronds that can catch dust with their tiny hairs. It also absorbs some harmful gases like carbon monoxide and formaldehyde. It needs bright light, moderate water, and regular misting and fertilising." This plant is pet-friendly.
The second plant that can be used is a "rubber plant" which is a "large plant with glossy leaves that have a waxy coating that attracts dust." This plant is not pet-friendly, however. "It also removes some toxins like benzene and xylene", the video shared. It also "needs bright light, water when dry, and monthly fertilising and pruning."
The final plant is a spider plant, which is a "low maintenance plant", so perfect for those not quite cut out to be a full time plant parent. It has "slender leaves" that have "fine hairs that trap dust" and it also "eliminates some pollutants like formaldehyde and carbon monoxide." It also needs "bright light, water when dry, and bi-weekly fertilising and trimming."
