Love Island's Faye Winter says she's 'lost work' after supporting XL Bully dogs

Love Island star Faye Winter has revealed that she has been the target of online abuse and has lost work after speaking out against the government ban on XL Bullys.

The reality TV star, 28, shared a video on social media of her meeting a dog of that breed called Nala and claimed that the breed had been misjudged. The ban came in to place after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reacted to a series of attacks that either left a person with serious injuries or died. The new law will make it illegal to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, rehome, abandon or allow an XL Bully dog to stray in England and Wales.

But Faye said that she could not just sit back and watch as the ban is enforced. She wrote: "NALA - firstly what an honour to meet such an incredible, kind soul that the UK wants to generalise as evil. It was a pleasure to be in your company from the moment I saw you to the moment I left. "

She added: "I’m not here to take away from anyone that has been the subject of a dog attack, I’m sorry you’ve had to endure pain and heartbreak, I’m also not here saying that there is no evil in people that own this breed. All I know is that most of these dogs are just like Nala preparing to have their innocent lives ended on the 31st of December because they are in rehoming centres and I can’t sit back and watch. "

She continued: "Through speaking on this subject I’ve endured hate and lost work but if I can save one dog’s life I know it will be for something. All you see in the media is one small horrendous snippet and I can see why people are fearful, I’m just wanting to show you another side the true side for most of this breed. You all gave us a platform and I’ll be dammed if I’m not using it."

Nala, is currently under the care of the RSPCA who remain hopeful that they will be able to rehome her. But this was clearly too much for the reality TV star to handle as she claimed that it "breaks my heart" but she is hopeful that Nala will find the perfect home.

In addition to the ban that is set to be enforced by December 31, it will also be illegal to own an American XL Bully in England and Wales from February 1 2024. Owners can apply to have their pets exempt, which means they would have to pay £92.40 for a certificate and the dog would need to be microchipped and neutered, as well as muzzled and kept on a lead in public.

Those without a certificate of exemption will face a fine and a criminal record. The other option would be to have their dogs put down and as a compensation that would be paid £200 by the Government. On the back of this owners have been left in a panic because they are worried their dogs will be put down and so in some cases owners are begging vets to change the name of their dog's breed from XL Bully to Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
