Fans nostalgic as Eddie Murphy wows in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F first look

Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley in 2024 as Netflix released the trailer for the fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie on Thursday.

The streaming service first teased the newest film in the franchise by posting a photo to Instagram of a beat-up Detroit Police ID of Axel's. Underneath it said: "Only on Netflix Summer 2024."

"Eddie Murphy is back as Axel Foley. get ready for the teaser tomorrow," the caption read. True to their word, the next day a trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F hit YouTube and Netflix's social media sites.

The Instagram caption for the trailer read: "Don’t worry, they love him in beverly hills. eddie murphy returns as axel foley in BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL F. premiering summer 2024."

The trailer included the song Axel F, an instrumental techno beat created by German musician Harold Faltermeyer. It was originally written for the first Beverly Hills Cop film and rose to fame most recently when Crazy Frog did a cover of it in 2005.

It also shows some familiar faces, with Judge Reinhold and John Ashton returning to their roles as police officers Billy Rosewood and John Taggart respectively. Judge has appeared in every film in the franchise, with John only not making an appearance in the third film.

With the cast reuniting, fans took to social media to share their excitement. "Do not even care about the script/Story. I AM IN," one fan commented on the Instagram post of the trailer.

"I'm so stoked for this. I got such a happy feeling of nostalgia seeing Axel, Billy, Taggart and Serge all back together," one fan commented on the trailer, "This is just gonna be fun to watch. I can not wait."

Beverly Hills Cop was Eddie Murphy's first box office hit in 1984 after he made his name appearing as a cast member of Saturday Night Live. The first flick follows Axel, a Detroit detective, who travels to Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of his childhood friend Mikey.

With the success of the first film, two sequels followed - Beverly Hills Cop 2 (1987) and Beverly Hills Cop 3 (1994). This film will reportedly revolve around Axel being brought back to Beverly Hills after a conspiracy puts his daughter (played by Zola Star Taylour Paige) in danger.
