Married At First Sight Australia star Tahnee Cook has split from Ollie Skelton just 16 months after the couple met on the popular reality show.

The 27-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday to share the news with her 250k followers, explaining that although she's "proud" of their journey, "sometimes relationships just don't work out." Tahnee was matched with Ollie, 26 by the MAFS dating coaches after it was predicted that the two strangers would be compatible as spouses because of their differing levels of extroversion. Unfortunately, despite trying to make things work, the two struggled to keep the marriage alive after the show had wrapped and have now gone their separate ways.

"Just as I share the highlights of my life on here, it’s only fair for me to share when things aren’t always fun," Tahnee said in a lengthy statement. "Sadly, Ollie and I have decided to part ways. Our lives are taking us in different directions and we feel at this stage it’s the best decision for us."

Tahnee admitted that although they had strong feelings for each other, their matrimonial arrangement wasn't meant to be longterm. "From meeting as strangers who got “married”, to genuinely finding love, I’m pretty proud of the time we’ve shared," she added. "Our journey together has been such a roller coaster but sometimes relationships just don’t work out - no matter how much you want them to - and that’s okay.

Tahnee signed off the statement by expressing gratitude for her experience on MAFS, which she seems to not regret despite not finding a lifelong partner. "I’m so thankful for what these last 16 months has taught me, and for the genuinely supportive community I’ve found on here," she said. "Break ups are never easy but heartbreak is worth it in the pursuit of love." She also posted a sweet selfie of her with Ollie pulling a funny face, suggesting that the pair have ended on amicable terms.

Meanwhile, Ollie confirmed he and Tahnee had split, taking to his own Instagram to share a detailed post about the breakup. "Hello, Tahnee and I have split up. It’s sad, but it’s okay. What a ride! A journey filled with love, laughter, challenges, and in the last month, reflection. I think we tried really hard to make it work.

There is such a separation from Skye Suites to real life that I think is really hard to account for and (albeit not without trying) was an adjustment that we struggled to make.

I kinda have this pipe dream of us being like Jerry and Elaine from Seinfeld post-breakup, a very hard thing to do obviously, but the sentiment at its core is that I plan to try to be someone who champions Tahnee and can be there for her as a friend. In a post like this, the words “friend” and “breakup” are usually synonymous but with little truth behind them. However, if friendship was the foundation of us before love, I like to think it might be something we can share in the aftermath." Ollie also shared a video of the two dancing, further reflecting their desire to remain friends following the breakup.

Tahnee's split from the voice-over artist has shocked fans, many of whom believed that the relationship was meant to be. Ollie had even revealed he wanted children with his reality TV star wife, telling New magazine they had already picked out their names for their future kids. The two also moved in together in Sydney, Australia, where Tahnee is originally from and works as a PR manager. She has returned to her day job since leaving MAFS and has also launched a podcast called Chuffed, which sees the Internet personality joined by other reality TV stars to discuss relationships, dating and pop culture.
