Biscuit brand OREO has spent over 100 hours turning its latest seasonal fashion idea into a reality – a cosy, cookie-dispensing puffer jacket.

The snack brand commissioned research of 2,000 adults, asking what would be their top requirements in a piece of clothing designed to help them snack on the go.

It emerged the top feature, for 42%, would be easily accessible pockets – followed by an item that is comfortable to wear (36%), and has crush-proof pockets (28%), to keep their snacks in tact.

Meanwhile, 17% would want a garment with insulating technology, to stop their munchies from melting – while 14% said it is important that it comes in a stylish, modern design. And in light of the findings, OREO has now created its bold new “Puffer Snacket”, designed in the same bright blue as the biscuit's packaging.

The prototype fuses food and fashion, thanks to a mechanical backpack, which serves biscuits while on the move, with a custom-built mechanism ejecting snacks to share after pulling down the hatch on the front.

It also includes hidden features such as crush-proof technology, melt-proof insulation, and shape-shifting technology – allowing you to turn the cosy puffer into a cape, so you have easier mobility to tackle any task.

It was designed after the research, carried out via OnePoll, found that 57% of people who celebrate Christmas find it a stressful time, with four in 10 looking to be more playful as a result. And 71% also claim that having a snack helps alleviate worries of the busy season.

Josep Sallares, brand manager at Mondelēz International, said: “We know that people are looking for more ways to be playful at this time of year, and our puffer jacket – or, as we've dubbed it, the “Snacket” – is a great example of how we can inject this at a time of year that’s often quite stressful.

“As the temperature drops, we’re excited to release the concept as a glimpse into what could be the perfect festive fashion statement. Although this particular jacket is not available to purchase, we won’t rule out a return by popular demand in the future.”

Samara Potter, fashion designer at Plunge Creations, which developed the concept, added: “We loved creating this one-off piece, inspired by “Snack-core” – an emerging fashion trend that fuses street style with functions that make snacking on the go feasible.

“We hope this new style inspires people to playfully enjoy their favourite snack on the go, while also looking like one.”
