Tony Finau's decision to stay loyal to the PGA Tour could well have scuppered the plans of LIV Golf's latest big-name signing Jon Rahm.

Rahm became LIV's highest paid player on the back of his move to the breakaway league last week, signing a deal worth a reported £450million. The switch proved to be a big loss for the PGA Tour, and there were fears they could lose one of there other big names in Finau.

The six-time PGA Tour winner was rumoured to be set to join the Masters champion, with the Telegraph reporting Finau was in talks to join Rahm's soon-to-be announced LIV Golf team. But Finau himself has squashed any rumours linking him to the breakaway league. He wrote on Instagram: "As this year comes to an end I’m grateful to play the game that I love and to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

"I’m excited for 2024 and looking forward to playing my 10th season on the PGA Tour! And stoked to be defending in both Mexico and Houston! Thank you to my partners for your continued support. Thank you to the fans for all the love for our whole Finau fam." Confirming his loyalties to the PGA Tour, the 34-year-old signed of his post with the hashtag, '#imnotleaving'. This will most likely have sent Rahm back to the drawing board when it comes to putting together his four-man team for his debut season in 2024.

As things stand, the 48-man roster is split across 12 teams, but Rahm's move means the league will be made up of 13 squads, with the Spaniard given the reins to look after his own franchise. Rahm is no stranger to team golf having competed at college level for Arizona State, as well as starring on the Ryder Cup stage for Team Europe.

On the back of his switch last week, Rahm revealed the chance to be part of a team played a part in him deciding to make the £450 million move. The team aspect of things is absolutely key," he said. Growing up being a football supporter, in Spain, teams are the important part.

"I was part of the Spanish national team for many years and more recently ASU. I’ve been part of a golf team for the largest part of the career. Having that opportunity brought a lot of those feelings back. I’m looking forward to building a team of four strong players. That’s a beautiful feeling that we don’t get to experience often in golf. It’s one of the main motivating factors for me."

One man who was also linked to joining the Spaniard on the Saudi-backed series is his European teammate Tyrrell Hatton, with Golf WRX reporting the Englishman was in talks to join Rahm's team. Mirror Sport have approached Hatton's representatives for comment.
