Claudia Winkleman has revealed a major change to the filming of The Traitors series two, following the success of its first season last year.

The BBC reality show was met with widespread positive reviews when it premiered last November, earning two BAFTA nods and 34 million views on iPlayer within three months of its release. Hosted by Claudia, 51, and set in a Scottish castle, the intense competition sees 22 strangers battle it out in a string of challenges for a coveted prize of £120,000. Amongst the players lie the Traitors, who secretly decide which of the Faithfuls they should eliminate from the group.

While fans can expect a similar format as its first series, the show's executive producer has confirmed that Series Two's game "will be different", because applicants are already familiar with the format. Another exciting change is that the iconic armoury, which is where contestants can gain advantageous powers, will be replaced by the kitchen. When asked about what fans could expect, Claudia said that she 'wished' she could share more details. "I think I’m allowed to say the armoury has gone and now there’s a kitchen," she told the BBC. "That’s it!" At another point in the interview, she said, "I wish I could say more but I’ll be fired…"

Speaking about the experience of shooting The Traitors series two, Claudia also revealed that her children had joined her during production for the first time. "This year we filmed Traitors when the little ones weren’t at school, so they came to visit me," she told RadioTimes, after revealing her kids are forbidden from watching her shows. "Why are we in a castle, Mum?” They’ve never seen it. Much better." Claudia and her husband Kris Thykier have three children, Jake, 19, Matilda, 15, and ten-year-old Arthur. The Strictly Come Dancing host prefers to keep her family out of the spotlight, rarely showing them on social media or discussing them publicly.

Claudia has, however, spoken about how her parenting style of her kids has changed over the years: "As they grow up, they become really funny and great company, so you go, OK. It's just a different relationship. So I'm no longer just feeding you and licking your neck, you are the best person I know to go out for dinner with." Claudia has also opened up about a terrifying accident with her daughter Matilda in 2014, which saw the schoolgirl suffer severe burns after her Halloween costume caught fire.

"I bought her costume from a supermarket, she wanted to go as a witch so she had a witch’s hat and a cape and some stripy tights and a sort of long flowy skirt thing," she said in 2015. I was talking to somebody… and then I heard her shout and she was on fire…It feels like she was on fire for hours, but the surgeon said that it definitely wasn’t the case and it was probably just seconds… she went up, is the only way I know how to describe it… it was a spark and she screamed out for me.

“It was like those horrific birthday candles that you blow out and then they come back…it was really fast, it was fast, it wasn’t fire like I’d seen.”

The Traitors Series 2 will start on Wednesday, January 3 at 9pm on BBC One. Episodes two and three will also be available on the same night. Both will air on iPlayer once the first episode has ended.
