According to a new report, the legendary battle royale map Verdansk is finally returning to Warzone, and it's surely a no-brainer for Activision.

The new MW3-inspired Warzone finally launched last week, with the MW3 Season 1 update introducing a gameplay overhaul to the battle royale title, as well as the new Urzikstan map, which has a lot of similarities to the much-loved Verdansk map from the original Call of Duty: Warzone. And, according to a new report from Insider Gaming, Verdansk itself will be returning to Warzone by the end of 2024, with the report also suggesting that it will launch shortly after the release of a new Black Ops Call of Duty title.

Warzone OG

Fortnite OG, the Fortnite season that re-introduced the game's classic battle royale map, along with various legendary POIs, vehicles, and weapons, was so wildly successful that Epic Games is planning to re-launch it in 2024, with hundreds of millions of players dropping in throughout the season. Nostalgia sells, and it looks like Activision is finally realising that fact.

Verdansk holds such a special place in the hearts of Warzone players everywhere. Launched just before a pandemic swept the globe, that map was a place in which players could escape from reality and chat with their friends and family, at a time when you couldn't see them face-to-face. Lifetime memories were made in this legendary Warzone map, and although I've got a sneaky suspicion that the map wasn't quite as good as the rose-tinted spectacles may have you believe, it's still a no-brainer to bring it back.

I was convinced that the only reason MW3's campaign featured missions based in Verdansk was that the developers were already hard at work remastering it for an upcoming release, and this leak all but confirms my suspicions, particularly given that Verdansk will be available in Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile at launch (whenever that will be). Activision knows it will be on to a winner when the day comes to bring Verdansk back, and the success of Fortnite OG is further proof of that, with the map's rumoured late 2024 release date giving them enough time to build the excitement before the big reveal.

But with the MW3 multiplayer offering being full of remastered classic maps, the only question for Activision now is, when they re-release Verdansk, where does it go from here? You can only rely on nostalgia for so long, and sooner or later, it will have to start making new classics, because it will soon be running out of things to bring back.
