The notorious Elf on the Shelf has sparked chaos once again.

Brought over from the States in recent years, the festive toy began as a children's book back in 2005 - telling the story of how Santa sends an elf to check on whether the little ones are being 'naughty or nice'. The book comes with a 'scout' elf puppet which can recreate different tales at home.

In recent years, parents have gone viral for making the elf conduct a slew of mischievous stunts and pranks - which don't always go to plan. Not everybody enjoys the new toy though, with a new survey showing people prefer classic Xmas traditions.

One boy failed to control his mouth and erupted into a foul-mouthed rant after discovering his elf on the shelf had broken into his precious sweets. Three-year-old Jenson Johnston woke up to find the cheeky elf had poured his mini marshmallows all over the floor - and he wasn't happy.

24-year-old full-time Mum Leticia O'Sullivan, from Wales, filmed the prank, documenting his outrage. "My boy was in utter shock," she said. "We weren't expecting much of a reaction. The elf on the shelf has emptied Jenson's sweets cupboard and made a mess on the floor."

When the tot discovers the marshmallows, he quickly runs to fetch his Dad and is so frustrated he keeps on swearing. Unsurprisingly, the video went viral after it was shared on TikTok, attracting a slew of amused viewers.

"Living his best life... just fantastic," one user commented, while another added: "Best reaction ever."
