Mama June managed to fix her fractured relationship with her daughter Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell in the months before her death at the age of 29.

Anna was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal cancer back in January and her mother has announced she sadly died at her home on December 9. Anna had been estranged from June since 2003, but the pair reunited following Anna's diagnosis.

After living with her grandmother for several years, Anna moved back in with her mum in 2012, but their reunion didn't last. The mother-daughter duo had been estranged for six years before reuniting earlier this year. Here, we've taken a look at their fraught relationship.

Anna and June have had a strained relationship ever since Anna left the family home in 2003 and moved in with her grandmother. She alleged that she had been assaulted by her mother's then-boyfriend, registered sex offender Mark McDaniel.

In 2014, Anna said McDaniel would "try and touch me and all that stuff" when she was just eight years old. "A week or so after it happened, I talked to Mama and she was upset, crying and saying, 'I don't believe you, I don't believe you, why would you do this to me?'" Anna told People in 2014.

Anna told her mum what McDaniel had done and said: "I can't do anything about it. You were never there to see it. You were always at work." After living with her grandmother for nine years, Anna returned to her mum's home in 2012 ahead of the premiere for Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. At the time, she explained they realised they needed to "put this behind us" and get their relationship back on track.

Sued for unpaid work

As the pair worked on rebuilding their relationship, things took a turn for the worst in 2015 when Anna sued Mama June for allegedly unpaid appearances on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Anna claimed she and her daughter Kaitlyn were owed $300,000 (£240,000).

Anna claimed her mother held on to $200,000 (£160,000) in earnings that was supposed to go to her, as well as $100,000 (£80,000) for Kaitlyn. "Unfortunately, despite contractual requirements to do so, none of the Defendants have provided Anna and Kaitlyn with the full compensation and consideration they were contractually promised for their participation in Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," the lawsuit read.

It added: "Despite continuous requests for information and documents made by Anna on behalf of herself and her daughter Kaitlyn to discover how much money is owed to Plaintiffs ... Defendants have continued to deny Anna knowledge of the facts and figures of their accounts."

Anna later said the lawsuit "didn't go anywhere" and admitted fighting over money "didn't help" their relationship. She added: "I was like, 'You know what screw it.' Yes, it's a lot of money, but still it's like it's not like I want to stress myself over trying to get it."

Mama June ended her bitter feud with Anna following her cancer diagnosis. The devastating news of Anna's illness has brought their "fractured" family together after six years of the siblings being estranged from their mother.

During a chat with the Daily Mail, Mama June confirmed that she had been visiting Anna during her treatments. "Honestly, the people that have been there for her since she's been diagnosed is me and Justin, Eldridge and the girls," Mama June said. "There's no other family that come up there and sit with her during her treatments.

"There is nobody that comes and checks to make sure that she's good, to make sure that she got everything. It's literally me, Justin, Pumpkin (Lauren Efird), Honey Boo Boo (Alana Thompson), Jessica. That's it.

She also explained that the family had been "working through arguments and undergoing counseling" to repair her relationship with her daughters. On Sunday, Mama June took to Instagram to announce her daughter had sadly died.
