Tourist's plea after losing necklace with dead dad's ashes at Christmas market

A woman's festive trip to Edinburgh has been ruined by the loss of a necklace that contained the ashes of her deceased father.

Megan Mcgovern, from Redcar, mislaid the sentimental pendant while visiting the capital's famous Christmas Markets between Thursday 30 November and Saturday 2 December. The necklace is described as having a silver chain with a circular pendant.

Her father Andrew tragically passed away in 2019 and since then she has reserved carrying the jewellery around for special occasions. Her efforts so far to recover the necklace have proved fruitless, having contacted all the venues she visited but told that nothing has been handed in. Its loss has left her devastated.

"The pendant on the necklace contains my dads [sic] ashes and I am unsure at what point I lost it over the days from November 30 to December 2. The most frustrating part is that I usually do not take it away from home at the risk of losing it," Mcgovern told EdinburghLive.

"But I thought the safest place to keep it would be in my bag within a zipped purse that I had with me over the full two days," she added.

"With it having my dad's ashes inside it was the one item which always made me feel close to my dad and the thought of it being somewhere which I am unaware of makes me feel really uneasy," she said.
