Hideo Kojima made his annual appearance at The Game Awards this year to reveal a brand new project known as OD, which is the final name for the previously announced Xbox exclusive.

While many of us were expecting Death Stranding 2 to re-appear at The Game Awards this year (following it's reveal at the show last year) Hideo Kojima has announced his latest project called OD – a horror title starring Hunter Schafer, Udo Kier, and Sophia Lillis – and he's working on it with horror legend Jordan Peele. OD is the final title of the previously confirmed Xbox Game Studios produced Kojima Productions title which was confirmed at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2022.

While not much was revealed about the game the trailer was appropriately spooky with some hyper-realistic face models of Lillis, Schafer, and Kier delivering monologues at you (with some gut-wrenching screams to boot). The game was described as part-game, part-movie (along the lines of Metal Gear Solid 4, perhaps), and that it's taking advantage of cloud gaming technology. Kojima also made a very in-character claim that the game is "a new form of media" and that he's working with even more horror legends for this project – a group he has dubbed "the avengers".

Underdose

As much as I'm automatically excited to see what Hideo Kojima is working on, CGI-only trailers that tell you nothing about what the game actually is, or 'look at the celebrities we have attached to our game', just doesn't do anything for me. Considering how interesting Death Stranding turned out to be, I'm sure OD is going to be interesting too, but I need to see more.

I guess the most interesting bit of info we have so far is that Jordan Peele is going to be involved creatively, alongside some other horror filmmakers. Not to get ahead of myself, but there are two names that stuck out when I heard him say this. That being Guillermo Del Toro (a previous Kojima collaborator) and John Carpenter (who is a big fan of video games). Not to get my hopes up, but it'll be interesting to see Kojima (and potentially Del Toro) finally getting a horror game out the door all these years after the cancellation of Silent Hills.
