Kristen Stewart was seen partying in Manchester on Wednesday night ahead of a huge Chanel show in the city.

The Twilight star, who is a Chanel muse and brand ambassador for the designer label, was an unlikely face in Salford Lads Club, which is famous for its links to iconic Manchester band The Smiths – and even has its own Smiths Room.

Attending the party with girlfriend and bride to be Dylan Meyer, the 33-year-old cut a casual figure in a grey checked Chanel coat she wore over a white T-shirt that featured a picture of a couple kissing. She accessorised with a chunky silver necklace that appeared to have a lock and key pendant and rocked black jeans and clashing white socks with black loafer-style shoes. Her short black and red hair was fastened up loosely in a messy bun.

Also spotted at the star-studded event was Dr Who and Victoria star Jenna Coleman who brought an air of glamour to the VIP event in a black jacket and jeans which she teamed with a classic Chanel handbag and black and silver heels.

Salford-born punk poet John Cooper Clarke was also on the guestlist ahead of Chanel’s eagerly anticipated Métiers d’art show, which will take place in Manchester’s Northern Quarter tonight. The 74-year-old gave a thumbs up to the camera as he was pictured heading into the club wearing a huge grey baker boy hat, black skinny jeans, an overcoat and a red and navy scarf. Even though it was night, he still wore his trademark sunglasses.

John, who has been dubbed the ‘Godfather of punk poetry’, is heavily involved in the Chanel event as he is one of the curators of a huge new exhibition being staged at Manchester’s Victoria Baths. Tonight’s A-list guests will be the first to see the exhibition as Victoria Baths is the location for the official for the Chanel fashion show after party later.

Explaining why they had chosen Manchester for the prestigious fashion show, the brand said on Instagram: “CHANEL has chosen to present the 2023/24 Métiers d’art show in Manchester, one of the most effervescent cities of pop culture and an avant-garde one, whose bands, spanning all genres, have changed the history of music.” In the past, Chanel has chosen other UK cities for its collections including Linlithgow Palace near Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2012.

A film of the show will be revealed to the public on Friday, December 8 at 9am UK time. The exhibition, which is called ‘Manchestermodern: past present future”, will then open to the public from Friday at 4pm. Tickets are free but time slots must be booked in advance.

Ahead of the star-studded event expected to host 600 VIP guests and catwalk models, Chanel is said to have booked out rooms in Manchester’s most luxurious hotels as A-listers from round the world jet in for the exclusive invite-only fashion show. Chanel’s creative director, Virginie Viard – who took over from Karl Lagerfeld when he died in 2019 – will host the show in the city’s Northern Quarter.

Celebs including and are said to have been invited to attend the show on Thursday. Other rumoured names include Barbie actress Margot Robbie and Timothée Chalamet and Riley Keough, who were made new Chanel brand ambassadors in May.

A video posted by Manchester’s Finest revealed the invitation for the show comes with a 12-inch vinyl record, as well as a Manchester-themed cashmere scarf and a magazine featuring the street sign from soap opera Coronation Street, which has been changed to say Chanel St.

Fans have already gathered in Manchester ahead of the extra-special fashion extravaganza. Thomas Street has been filled with construction workers transforming the area into a catwalk. Last year the annual fashion event was held in Africa for the first time, at Dakar in Senegal. More celebrities are expected to arrive in Manchester in the coming hours ahead of tonight’s show.

In September, fashion exhibition Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto – dedicated to the designer who established the luxury fashion house – opened at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and has already sold out.
