Wrexham star Mullin dispels "garbage" theory on footballers' drinking habits
Wrexham goal-scoring machine Paul Mullin has admitted he's not a fan of drinking and partying and is happy to avoid the consequences of a hangover the next day.
The 29-year-old doesn't get caught up with the glitz and the glam despite the dazzle of Hollywood about Wrexham as a result of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's ownership. And he insists the idea that players are pressured to drink in the dressing room environment is just not the case.
"The idea that there’s always pressure to be out with the lads, drinking and staying up half the night, is garbage," Mullin wrote in his book, My Wrexham Story. "I’ve never seen or felt that. I don’t feel pressure to behave like anything, because I know I can just be myself.
"To be honest, even when I was younger I never liked nightclubs. I don’t get the attraction of going to a place where I can’t hear anyone. You’re there with your mates, but you can’t speak to them – what’s the point of that?
"I’d rather go to a pub and have a conversation, or to a restaurant and actually catch up with people. It’s not like I’m a big drinker either. Never have been. It doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t like the feeling of being too drunk; I don’t even like the taste of alcoholic drinks half the time.

"And I don’t like hangovers. It takes me three days to feel alright again. I just don’t see the attraction of doing that over and over again. If there’s a celebration, I’ll have a drink and enjoy that time with people, but I wouldn’t be drinking to get drunk. It’s just about being social."
Mullin has been at Wrexham for two-and-a-half years and is already considered a club legend. The striker has 83 goals in 106 games, after dropping down from the Football League to the National League to play for the club.. Mullin was also Wrexham's main man in their promotion to League Two last season and he's one of the main reasons they are in the hunt for promotion to League One.

But a concern is that Mullin still feels the effects of the injury now. "I’d say it wasn’t until the Sutton United home game [on October 24] that I felt anywhere near myself,” he said, via The Athletic. “I still get some pain now, after games. But during the games it is always fine. Hopefully, now I can start to get back to where I was."
Up next for Mullin and Wrexham is Forest Green on Saturday. Forest Green is fighting for survival, with the Club sitting second-bottom of League Two.
