The Crown looks set to return after its final series – this time in the form of a spin-off.

The Royal Family's sauciest scandals could be set to feature in a brand new Netflix spin-off after The Crown comes to an end. Sarah Ferguson's infamous toe-sucking scandal cold feature, as well as Prince Andrew's romance with US former actress Koo Stark, says executive producer Andy Harries.

He argued “many examples” of “fairly tawdry events” had been left out of the streaming giant hit’s six series, adding: “We have often taken the high road here.” The Crown, which has divided critics and fans of the Royal Family, has been plagued with criticism that it unfairly targets the royals.

Executive producer Harries revealed that there are several scandalous events in the royals' history that have not been touched upon, but could feature in a new series. He said: ”I think one day [The Crown writer] Peter [Morgan] or any other producers might reveal many of the stories which we decided not to feature.”

It's unclear when writers will begin working on the teased the spin-off series or what form the spin-off could take. Netflix may look to produce another series in a similar style to The Crown or opt for a move or a series of specials. The Crown creator Peter Morgan previously told Variety that a “unique set of circumstances“ would need to occur for him to consider a spin-off of any kind.

He said: “I do have an idea. But first, I need to do some other things. Second, it would need a unique set of circumstances to come together. If I were to go back into The Crown, it would definitely be to go back in time.”

However, Fergie's affair scandal has been teased as the subject of the series. Fergie's relationship with John Bryan while she was separated from Prince Andrew but still married to him, is just one of the stories that could be told. The Duchess of York was pictured by a pool in St Tropez in 1992 with the Texan tycoon, her financial adviser, sucking her toes.

Harries said: “Fergie doesn’t feature heavily in the series. We didn’t do the toe sucking story. It wasn’t because it wasn’t a good or interesting story, but it was not central to the theme of the show...it was a side show and I think we have done well to avoid the silly sideshows.” Speaking to the Have You Seen? podcast, the executive producer revealed that members of “the circle around the royal family” had reached out to him. He said: “Koo Stark rang me up, she got straight through to me and offered her services. She was briefly a girlfriend of Prince Andrew.”

Tuesday night saw the premiere of the final six episodes of The Crown, but it seems this might not be the end of the series after all. Dominic West, who stars as the-then Prince Charles in the final series of The Crown revealed that his son, Senan West was invited to return play the young Prince William in series six of the drama, after performing in the role in series five.

Dominic told the Radio Times: ”I didn't fancy doing the scene at Balmoral, telling a boy his mother has died. They invited Senan back because he did such a good job but I did slightly baulk at that. It was unfair of me, because he did want to do it.”
