Strictly's Bobby and Dianne 'gutted' over live show blunder ahead of semi-final

Strictly Come Dancing's Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell were left "gutted" over a blunder on the BBC show this weekend.

Professional dancer Dianne has spoken out about her failed lift with EastEnders star Bobby Brazier on Saturday night, admitting they "always knew" that complex move would be "a risk." The Australian pro attempted to recreate the iconic 1987 Dirty Dancing lift with her celebrity partner for Musicals Week in the Quarter-Finals, in the hope of wowing the judges and getting one step closer to that coveted Glitterball Trophy.

Unfortunately, Dianne and Bobby didn't end up pulling off the dramatic move on the live show, despite having practised it religiously during rehearsals. When the 20-year-old hoisted Dianne above him, she began to wobble and struggled to keep her legs fully in the air. In his feedback, judge Craig Revel Horwood claimed that this shakiness could have been avoided if Bobby had lifted his mentor from a different position on her hips.

"Gutted the LIFT didn’t go to plan like it had in most rehearsals, but I do have to say we took a risk and didn’t play it safe," the 34-year-old choreographer wrote on Instagram after Sunday's results show. "That dance was hard and so iconic that, of course, there was pressure to do it justice, and the feeling of just not quite getting it was a bit low for us.

"HOWEVER bobby wanted to challenge himself and so did i and that is success and growth in its self .. let’s focus on the amazing parts of the dance the fact bobby was leading me around the floor his hips foot work expression and just overall improvement for a guy who started dancing only 11 weeks ago is incredible ! your strength your movement has improved so so much and i’m sure so many people agree." She signed off the powerful message by expressing her gratitude for the public's support before sending her love to Katya Jones and Nigel Harman, who had to withdraw from Strictly on the day of the Quarter Finals due to the 52-year-old's rib injury.

The Salsa performance to Time of My Life earned Bobby and Dianne a score of 34, placing them second to last on the leader board ahead of next week's Semi Finals.

Speaking about the imperfect lift again on Strictly: It Takes Two, Dianne told host Fleur East: "We always knew it was going to be a risk. On the show, you know, there's pressure, there's audience, you're a bit excited....you know, you're like, 'Is it going to happen?' It happened, but just not the best that we could have done it."

Next week, all remaining pairs will perform two different routines as they compete for a place in the long-awaited Final. Bobby and Dianne will be dancing the Quickstep tot Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin, as well as the Paso Doble to Run Boy Run by Yoann Lemonie.
