Two teenagers accused of murdering 16-year-old Brianna Ghey exchanged text messages with each other about kidnap and torture, a jury has been told.

Detectives interviewing Boy Y, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, took him through messages on his mobile phone while he was being questioned in connection with the murder of the youngster who was stabbed 28 times. Jurors at Manchester Crown Court have today watched the police interview with him. N aged 16, he is accused of murdering Brianna, along with another 16 year old, known to the court as Girl X.

In the video when asked by detectives about some of the messages, Boy Y claims they are talking about dead animals. The officer then reads him a message from Girl X to him. It reads: “I’ve got an idea. Manage to kidnap him and torture him until he locks his phone. Send a text to loads of people about him being really stressed and running away. Then smash up the phone somewhere and kill him.”

The detective also reads out the reply from Boy Y, which states: "That does sound good, however it is most likely easier to sweep her off her feet than to do that.” As the police recorded interview continues, the boy tells officers: “I don’t object to anything she says. I know that everything she says is random. I was basically giving another route than her to go out of her way to hurt someone.

Boy Y tells one officer: “She’s been telling me how she’s been killing people and I’m basically saying if you have been killing people then you are going to get caught.” In one of the text exchanges, Boy Y sends the girl this message: “You’re one kill away from being a serial killer.” And girl X responds: “F**k yes.”

Today, distressing details of the 16-year-old's injuries were revealed as jurors heard she would have suffered a “catastrophic haemorrhage” from a number of them. Brianna, 16, was knifed on a path in Culcheth Linear Park, Warrington shortly before 3pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

The court heard Brianna was stabbed 28 times, with 14 of the knife wounds to the teen's head and neck and the other 14 to her chest. Dr Alison Armour who carried out the post mortem at the Royal Liverpool Hospital the day after Brianna was killed gave a cause of death of “multiple stab wounds”.

Dr Armour told the jury, with the help of CGI images of where the injuries were, that both of Brianna's lungs had collapsed, and she sustained seven wounds to her left lung and one to her right lung. She said that wounds sustained to Brianna's neck would have caused “catastrophic haemorrhage” and injuries found to the chest would have required “considerable force to inflict”. She also said Brianna suffered a "sustained and violent assault".

Both defendants deny murder. The trial continues.
