Strictly Come Dancing star slams Bobby Brazier and claims he was 'overmarked'

Former BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole has slammed Bobby Brazier for being overmarked during the show.

The EastEnders actor has managed to impress judges over the weeks with his dancing skills alongside his partner Dianne Buswell, but it seems that Brendan isn't too sure. Brendan appeared on the show between 2004 and 2018 and is still commenting on the current series.

Talking about last week's special episode which was musical week, the 47-year-old has said that he thought Bobby had been overmarked. He explained what the viewers see at home and what the judges see in the studio can come across quite differently, which could be why he didn't agree with the couples' scores.

Bobby and Dianne danced the salsa to (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life from the hit 1987 movie Dirty Dancing where they were awarded 34 out of a possible 40 points. Speaking to Sky Bingo, Brendan said: "[A score of 33] was about right for Annabel [Croft]. The judges have been overmarking everybody from the start so it's hard to gauge. If I'd have been marking it would have been a seven or an eight.

‌"Bobby [Brazier] shouldn't have had anywhere near 34, but that's the nature of the beast. What the judges see and what we see on television is often different. It's not always that easy to compare the two.

‌"In the studio you get a hyped audience, you get the audiences’ reaction, you get different lighting effects that we don't see at home, plus [the judges] tend to really like him as a personality on the show."

Bobby has consistently been near the top of the leaderboard throughout his time on the popular dancing show, being one of the favourites to win from the start. He has won the nation over with his charm, especially when he performed his emotional couples' choice dance to Maxwell's This Woman's Work which he dedicated to his late mother Jade Goody.

Jade died at the age of 27 with cervical cancer when Bobby was just five-years-old in 2009. Bobby managed to earn a huge 37 out of 40 points for his emotional dance.

Reflecting on how it felt to perform the routine in memory of his mother, he said: "It was a privilege. I knew (for) my couple’s choice I wanted (it) to be that. Although it was daunting to perform because that song is perfect… but I’m really, really, really glad I did."

He added: "It really touched people, which is what I wanted to do so I welcomed all the love. We communicated, we translated something to people and that’s what I wanted to do. I think that’s what happens when you dance authentically and from your heart. So I’m really glad that that happened."

Last week's Strictly saw no one go home due to actor Nigel Harman bein forced to leave the competition due to sustaining a serious injury.
