Iconic Grade-A listed church can be yours for just £150,000
A Grade-A listed church has been placed on the market by the Church of Scotland, with offers recommended to start at £150,000.
Located on Maiden Street in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, the Muckle Kirk church dates back to 1804. It has a "prominent position" on the edge of the town centre, as well as harbour views within walking distance.
Its spacious setting of more than 12,665 square feet boasts an open-plan church area with a balcony, ancillary teaching rooms, and a separate office. The first floor is furnished with a hall, functioning kitchen, and toilets for visitors - but as a Grade A building, proposed alternations could require listed building consent.
The Muckle Kirk, also known as Old Parish Church, was built by local brothers Robert and John Mitchell between 1804 and 1806, to a design by Edinburgh-based architect Alexander Laing, reports AberdeenLive.
The listing comes as the Church of Scotland continues its downsizing mission through a reduction of its property portfolio. A seemingly terminal decline in membership and falling congregation numbers led the Church to say it can no longer afford the current number of ministers and buildings.

As offers will require to be considered by one or more Church Committees, they should not be subject to short time limits for acceptance.
"The sellers do not bind themselves to accept the highest or any of the offers they receive. Whilst the foregoing particulars are believed to be correct they are not warranted on the part of the sellers and prospective purchasers will require to satisfy themselves with regards to all matters prior to offers."
